moving to Barbados end of March
My husband and I and our 15 month old little boy are moving to Barbados at the end of March from London. My husband has been posted out there to set up a branch of his company he works for. Looks like we'll be there for around 1.5 to 2 years.
What's it like living in Barbados? I am completely new to the Carribean, don't really know too much about it. Is it easy to meet fellow expats? We don't really know anyone so would be great if anyone could give us some tips on where is good to go to meet people. Sophie |

Hiya, he may be able to help you. Still not 100% sure exactly where we're going to be living, it is being sorted out at present, it may be St Thomas. What does your fiance do and what were you doing before you decided to move? Stu is setting up a call centre for a IT marketing company. We don't know anyone on the island at present, it's going to be weird leaving all my friends and family behind but still so excited! Who wouldn't want to live in the Carribean!!
Are you on Facebook? Sophie |
Re: moving to Barbados end of March
Hi Sophie, thanks for the quick reply!:) Craig is a site/project manager here in Scotland ( Thats what he is going to be doing in Barbados for a local company) and I am a certified wedding planner but I do have a lot of PA/office experience. We lived in Jamaica last year with him doing the same thing and again I couldnt work due to being on his visa! So for the last year and a half I have been a globetrotting housewife! Getting tired of it now and really want to work when we get to Barbados even part time? If your husband could help that would be amazing! I dont have Facebook but I have bebo or msn??:)

Hiya, would be great to meet up. How fab that you have been a lady of leisure, chilling out in the sun! Still I guess it could get boring after a while. I'm not going to be working and pretty much looking after my son Jacob, who is sooo cute! I've been working in ad production for The Economist magazine, I handed in my notice last week, that really did rock! Where did you say you'd be living again?

Re: moving to Barbados end of March
Hi Sherril:
You are right about the important of keeping busy in Barbados. It can be lonely not having anything to do in the day and there is only so much mindless activities you can do (going to the beach) before you get bored. Good luck in finding something to do. John |
Re: moving to Barbados end of March
Hiya, cool, not sure where Christ Church is but then again I know v little about the island. I've heard about St Lawrence Gap being the place to go out in, so I guess we'll be hunting out some babysitters so Stu and i can sample the local Rum! ;-)
What's your e-mail address? Nearer the time I'll message you so we can try and meet up..... Sophie |
Re: moving to Barbados end of March
Hi Sophie:
Life in Barbados is really great and you will enjoy your time here. There is lots to do if you are not working, although taking care of your young son is a full time job in itself. People like Barbados because it is really safe and the people are friendly, and there is a good mix of locals, expats and tourists. There are lots of great restaurants and attractions, shopping for duty free is not bad, and there are beautiful beaches around every corner. Bajans are very well educated, polite and friendly. If you have specific questions about life here, feel free to ask. John |

Hi John, can you recommend a nice place to live. My husband will be working on the border or Christ Church and St Michael. Also do you know of any good estate agents, we are looking to rent a 3 bed house.
Thanks for your help Sophie |
