Making the move!

Hi there! I'm 23, born and raised in England and found out fairly recently that due to some technicality of my Dad being born in Barbados at the right time, I am lucky enough to have dual nationality with both Britain and Barbados. I recently applied for my Bajan passport (which I'm still waiting to arrive!) with the view to move out to Barbados for a little while. I was hoping someone could give me advice on looking for jobs (I have extensive retail and management experience but would like to get into the tourism industry) and how to go about looking for accommodation, even just a room to rent for now would be great! Any help would be massively appreciated as I am hoping to make the big move as soon as possible!
Many thanks, Bekki

Re: Making the move!

Hi Bekki ..Congratulations on your plans and dreams...do you have family in Bim?..do you know people on the island ...have you ever visited? If not get yourself over and do a reckie is my advice.. just as a foreigner coming to the UK would have a job just pitching up so will you ..the tourism industry and retail is very well catered for but its a case of getting lucky...being british will give you an edge but can be a slight curse as well as its more difficult to slide into the working culture..join Bajans in London group on Facebook and ask if anyone has a room to rent but to be honest I think you need to look at where you might want to live, ie bus routes which side of island etc

Re: Making the move!

Brilliant, thank you so much for your advice! I don't currently know anyone living there but I have visited several times and have a vague sense of where everything is. I am thinking of coming out to stay for a week later this month and seeing if I can make something happen whether it is immediate or as soon as possible.
