Re: Jobs in Schools

Not necessarily, as long as you are a Barbadian. Born in, or have Barbados citizen by marriage or decent or you are a Caricom citizen with a professional skills certificate. (not sure that's the proper name)

if you are none of the above, you would be required to have a work permit for the job you would be doing and that work permit would have to be applied for by the school;(and it's specific to that school and can't be used to change jobs at another school) and the employer would have to be able to prove that the job you would be hired for couldn't be done by a Barbadian.

hope this helps.

Re: Jobs in Schools

I fear that getting a job in Barbados as a teacher may now be as difficult as in any other former colony. I was fortunate in that I became a teacher just at the time when there was a huge demand in former colonies for qualified teachers. I cashed in by getting a series of teaching jobs in Afriuca and The Middle East before finally hanging up my mortar-board and putting the box of chalk in the broom cupboard.

Soon I will be haeding for The Great Staffroom in The Sky !
