Default Immigration and Work Permit

Hello All!

I was wondering what is the best approach to speaking with someone in immigration concerning the work permit process.

I currently have a student visa and am due to finish my research degree from UWI by the end of next year between Aug-Dec. Having a skill set that is needed here so I'm pursuing trying obtain a work permit. I was told by one of the employees of the department that there is certianly a need for my professional skills however I can not have a student visa and a work permit at the same time.

With that said, is it better to go into immigration or call on the phone to set up a meeting with someone in the work permit section? Any suggestions on who I can speak to within that department?

Kind regards
AAB

I'd suggest that you go in person, asked someone there who you would need to speak with, take any of your documentation with you and be very very patient. Be prepared to be turned down and if it works out.. that's great. I wouldn't suggest that you read any further on this board.. although there is some good information here.. if you are in Barbados, go directly to the immigration office and get it done first hand.

Job4epats.. I didn't really mean not to, what I meant was.. you will find several different opinions on this subject here.. but if you live here, go and get the info yourself and don't just read what is on here. you will get 5 different answers when you ask 5 different people on this board..
