ID CARD
Can anyone advise how to apply for a Barbados ID card. I am in the process of applying for a Barbados passport- I have citizenship by descent as both my parents are Barbadian (albeit that its my fathers nationality that gives me this privilege)
I was wondering how to apply for my ID card and hope the forum members can help. I say I am in the process of applying because I first need to get a new birth certificate for my dad as the old one he has is no longer accepted. I have the unenviable task of queuing in the post office to get the $1.00 postal order..sigh Thanks in advance A |

If you are in possession of the paperwork showing that citizenship has been granted,take them along to the office (can't remember the official departmental name) in the big building opposite the Fairchild Street bus terminal in Bridgetown (first door on the left). They will take your photo there and give you a siny new laminated ID card. The whole process should not take more than 1 hour depending on the amount of people waiting (go early). Alternatively, if you live on the west coast;they do the photos and paperwork,every Wednesday in the land tax office next to the police station in Holetown. They should give you a reciept and unfortunately you will still have to collect the card at the Bridgetown office a few days later,although there's almost no waiting required. Almost forgot,Wednesdays at 5pm (5.30pm Bajan time...traffic from Bridgetown etc. I know it sounds obvious but there's no use going without paperework.

RAZZ.. are you sure they give the cards out just like that??? I've gone recently for new cards for my children and for a renewal on mine, and I had to return in 2 weeks time for the card.
but whatever you do.. take the paper work. The building is the NIS building on Fairchild street. |

It's still a 2-week wait for the card once you've dropped off the paperwork and had your photo taken.

Ah, the good old days. When I got my first card done (15 years ago) I walked out out of the Fairchild Street office after about an hour with card in hand;this now being in tatters, I applied in Holetown for the replacement last week and was given a reciept to pick it up on 4th February,so when I said days in my post above, I meant Bajan days. Sorry for the confusion.
