I am coming to Barbados with my 3 brothers, can we get a cheap room to rent

First of all, you can't just relocate to Barbados.. ever. . anyone. Nigerian's do not require a VISA to visit Barbados for stays up to 6 months. after 6 months you would need a VISA.. and to be able to work in Barbados you would be require to have a work permit, which is provided by the company you will be working for and the job that you would be doing cannot be something that can beheld by a Barbadian. . This process can take anywhere from 1 month to a year for this work permit to come through and in most cases has to be renewed every 2 or 3 years.
Please DO NOT feel you can just relocate to Barbados.

Thanks for your reply, I know the process, I know we don't require a visa to come over, we are ready to renew our visa if we don't have a job yet after the 6 months, but as hard working as we are, we can job a good job that most Barbadians can't do. Still waiting for the apartment update. Thanks.

Kind of doesn't matter. you still need a work permit.. and you have to get one through an employer.. you can't just work in something you think a Barbadian can't do. trust me.. they do all sorts of things..

I may be wrong, but this thread looks very like a hoax - a wind-up. Surely everybody on BE already knows that foreigners can't just "relocate" to any Caribbean territory without Work Permits. What do you reckon, Sunnie?

It's not a wind up, when I went to UAE, I went with 3 months tourist visa, I got a job and my employer applied for my residency and working permit, I stayed there for 2 years plus, I had to leave because in no way does UAE give out citizenship, in almost all countries it illegal to work with a tourist visa, but it's possible to get a job and your employer will seek for a work permit for you. Thanks. Still waiting on the cheap apartment update.

OK, sorry! It did seem like a wind-up, but if it's not then I sincerely wish you well, and your three brothers too. Good luck!

see.. that's the other thing.. when you come in as a tourist and then start actively looking for work.. you can't actually just be hired unless the work permit is signed.. We have enough issues with people working in this country and I'm pretty sure the jobs you would say that Bajans will not do, will not get you a work permit.. they just wouldn't.. Field hand??, plumber (plenty of those)..grease trap cleaner (we have a very industrious population here for many things.. and there is at least 1 or my people who do this).. neurosurgeon with a specialization..?? maybe but.. we already send our people off island for those types of surgeries.. ..
at this moment our taxes and prices are already high..andgoing to get worse. The IMF just gave us 240milion (yes.. million) to help us bounce back and someone has to pay it back.. . Rents aren't cheap. maybe 600 BBD / 300.00usd for a studio apartment unfurnished in a basement.. . Our gasoline prices are the 3rd or 4th highest in the world. ..
you are probably thinking..this person doesn't want us to come.. well you are probably right. .. and doesn't really have anything to do with where you are from. there are brits and americans and canadians and other nationalities who would like to come here.. and live and work etc. just doesn't happen.. not that easy.. regardless.

Why should it be a wind-up? The OPs posts all relate to moving to Barbados. He appears to have joined to try and find out how to move there and how to work there, which after all is what BE s here for!. Therefore its not really fair to assume he had any prior knowledge of the system

the unfortunate part is.. Pollyana.. is that the OP is coming here to holiday with the intent on living and working here.. and that's honestly not the way it should be done.. legally. We are a small island. and people with work permits have been kicked off the island in resent years.. just because the government doesn't want them here.. or once the work permit is done, it's not renewed and you have to go (sometimes escorted to the airport.. it has happened... ) the OP says. doing jobs Barbadians will not do. .and I can tell you.. those jobs don't carry work permits..

However, I don't think the previous poster should be calling it a windup, that's my issue. Call it naivety, innocence, whatever, but I don't believe he is winding anyone up. Like so many posters before him, and many who will come after, he just does not understand how things work, and he deserves to be dealt knowledge, from people like you who are actually versed in a country's immigration habits and policies. I don't think he deserves to be blithely dismissed as a wind-up.

Sunnie... In some (most?) of the Caribbean islands, the Immigration authorities require visitors to hold return tickets, before they're allowed in. Is Barbados one of those? Here in Cayman, travellers without return tickets (i.e. "return" to countries that will accept them) aren't even allowed on airlines flying into Cayman. Does the same policy apply in Barbados?
Pollyanna... Jeck may well know all the rules and difficulties, and good luck to him if he does. But there will be other BE members reading this thread who might get the wrong impression, and we owe it to them to make the situation clear.

All the OPs posts on BE have been in recent days, all aiming to get himself to Barbados. To reply Surely everybody on BE already knows that foreigners can't just "relocate" to any Caribbean territory without Work Permits. really isn't helpful is it And actually I bet there are a fair number of posters on here that are blissfully ignorant of Barbadian visa regulations!!!

Where did I say not to make things clear? Of course you should make things clear, as we do in every forum on BE when people ask questions about migrating. THAT is not my issue My issue, if you care to go back and read my post was that a) you assumed he is just winding people up and b) you assumed that he has been around long enough to know the rues of migrating to Barbados. He came here asking for the answers. If he knew them already, why would he do that? The vast majority of people in the world have absolutely no idea about visa regulations, work permits etc. Posters on here and similar forums try to help them find their way through the maze
