Household Help/Cook/Cleaning Needed
 

We are moving to Barbados (Paynes Bay Beach area) in mid April and are looking for a full time person to help around the house. We are interested in having someone to clean, do laundry, dishes, prepare meals, occasionally watch our 2.5 and 5 year old, etc. Anyone know of someone who might be a good fit? If not, perhaps a resource you could point us to? Any idea what we could expect to pay for this type of help. The manager of the condo we are renting provided us an option, but the price was BDS150 per day which seemed very high.

well.. 150.00 per day does seem very high.. however. to say that you want someone full day and to cook, clean, watch the children etc, and if you are looking at a full 8 maybe even 9 hour day, this might not be soo far off.. however. There is basically, or used to be, a minimum you could pay per day.. something like 30.00 for 5 hours minimum and an additional per hour amount after that. . approximately. (remember the rate is 2 barbados to 1 us.. so paying 15.00USD for 5 hours worth of work would be, in my mind .. very low wages.. even for a house keeper... especially if she is doing cooking/cleaning and child minding..

I would have originally suggested that you speak to whom ever you are renting from but.. you have done that already. The next best thing might be to get here and do a little "checking" around the area. There aren't really any "maid" reference services, that I am aware of, but.. where you will be living, to get someone who lives on the West Coast, easy bus ride to you should be a plus and honestly easy enough.. HOWEVER.. you are also living on what could be consider a more expensive option and as you are only planning to be here for a short time, you may have to pay a little more. You can check with maybe St. James Parish church, which is located in Holetown (just 10min north) to see if maybe they know anyone who is looking for this type of work.
