Health Care & Prescriptions

Hi, my wife and I are investigating the possibility of re-locating to Barbados but as we are both in our late 50's healthcare is very important. For a start we both require regular prescription drugs, not a problem in U.K. but what about Barbados? Next healthcare, is it necessary to have health insurance and if so how much does it cost. Would it be stupid to be without health insurance ?

Thanks,
Martin

Re: Health Care & Prescriptions

I found Personal healthcare plans to be very expensive..most are linked to peoples employers...the average visit to a GP can be around $70-90 bds, an xray around $350 bds and I was quoted $10,000 bds for a hysterectomy.

When you say is it necessary thats for you to decide as there is no real NHS system ..there are poly clinics similar to the UK walk in clinics but these are not funded well.

Re: Health Care & Prescriptions

I looked for quotes for a combined policy for my wife and I and the cheapest of those was £62 a month, but that was with a VERY high excess (>£5k) and the cost rose significantly as the excess was reduced.

That was only from one comparison site though as I was only making preliminary checks and getting a ballpark figure - and it will change based on age etc. I am 34 and my wife 44. The prices did include emergency evac, but no dental or maternity cover, they will add to cost also.
