Where are you! Gonzalo is due to pass over the top of Grenada right now at around 7:00 pm Saturday evening as a category 1 hurricane. Things could obviously change though.

However, indeed Barbados has a hurricane warning in place.

I'm a few miles south of you, but a lot lower - which is helpful.

However, the nature of these beasts - plus the detailed forecasts ive seen today - we are going to get a LOT of rain on Saturday for maybe 24 hours, but almost no significant winds. Yes its a forecast / prediction but we are not in the firing line at present, thats Barbados/St Lucia but it could shift further away. You'll know when the monsters close - the wind direction will change - almost stopping or a slight breeze from the west.

Also - this is only just a hurricane really, predicted winds are at the highest 50 knots or so, therefore if it stays on target not much is going to happen in the lesser antilles. By the time it goes over Jamaica or Texas it could be a different story.

If the detailed maps change in a significant way i'll update this.

Dont believe local news, the source of truth is - https://www.nhc.noaa.gov but more detailed very local weather info can be gleaned from the weathermap or stormradar apps

What a difference a couple of days makes!

its now headed for Trinidad, but less powerful in wind terms, but carrying huge amounts of rain. We are all going to get a good soaking which isnt a bad thing in some ways, but theres snough on the way to endanger life in some areas i suspect.

well.. that was technically a non-starter.. however. we don't really take things lying down. move a few bits of things off the lawn. made arranges to have a skip delivered this week to get rid of other items that need to go before we really get going on the season. big rain Sat morning on my hill in St. George (middle of the island) .. and the most interesting part was going to the beach at Carlisle bay around 3pm .. between CopaCabana area and harbour lights Area.. and honestly. hardly a sole. there were about 18 people in 3 different groups where we were. a few more as you could look towards the Hilton and then to the harbour. .and a few people walking up and down the beach. empty.. and the sea was lovely. and no cruise ships. all headed out to sea.. but they will be back.

Yes indeed, not even enough rain. The news [im not saying good or bad] is theres another one on its way in about 5 days...

Heres an interesting issue. In their wisdom BA have decided that for now Grenadians must fly to the uk via another island. Barbados is imho silly because they want ‘caribbean bubble’ passengers who are only in transit to get tested before they arrive. This is not possible here. St Lucia does not require any testing for bubble passengers, but regional jets fly into Castries then you have a 90 min drive to Hewanorra to get BA or Virgin flights. Oh well....

No more Virgin flights into St Lucia - so BA have extra sections on Tuesdays and Saturdays to pick up that slack etc. etc. BUT (post-covid) they are now the ONLY flights into St Lucia, so they leave LGW slightly later UNTIL BA starts flying into Grenada and Trinidad via St Lucia.

It appears that effective October 1st for flights thereafter on Weds and Saturdays, BA will be operating their 'traditional' service via St Lucia Hewanorra (UVF) into Grenada.

Looks like effective October 1st, BA will go to daily out of LGW to St Lucia for onwards, with a 10:00 am departure each day.

Where did you see that last bit about BA starting in october pistolpete? If its just by schedules - they [BA] have been lying about these for months, but if its in some press release or similar that may be different...

I went into kayak to see what they would sell and from when. It was too laborious to fiddle with my Executive Club log-in but I did say looks like.

From what I can see it is indeed a moving target and flights slowly unroll as being cancelled. We've had 26th August going east cancelled but not our return on 16th September so i guess we can expect that soon.

It does make sense in light of the way islands have indicated their opening-up (St Lucia risking it first) and the fact that BA have to have the critical mass to set-up the entire routing the way it was before with crew and all and the LGW - UVF and then onwards into POS and GND short-runs and the coinciding with local indications of opening.

And of course BA have to get their stuff done with Pilots, Senior Cabin Crew and Gatwick South Terminal opening. And raising funds in a rights issue - all good fun!

yep.. have that one on the "watch" was well. initially looking like it's going north.. but.. one never knows. ..
