Buying electrical goods in Barbados

Hi
I'm having a house built in Barbados and wondering whether it makes sense to ship appliances from the UK or buy locally? If local, can anyone recommend a supplier? We need everything from TV, Fridge, Washing machine dryer etc.
Thanks

Re: Buying electrical goods in Barbados

the difference is in the electricity. Barbados uses 120v and 50hz and a US style 2 prong plug while UK is 210v with 50hz and a different type plug.

most people buy local, coming from the UK.. then try to sell it here, before they head back (if they head back).

someone else can answer this that has done it, but that is my 2 cents.

There are various electrical suppliers including da costa manning, courts and the cheaper places like shop smart etc.

What i didnt realise until the house i was living in was rewired was that the price of electricity costs much more if you use uk electricity voltage as compared to local - so electrician told me. Therefore what you save in shipping ya stuff here you loose in what you pay for the extra voltage - maybe someone can confirm that for you
