Default Barbados Help Please

Hi, My soon to be husband has been offered a job in Barbados. We will be married before we go but need to find out how easy/impossible it will be for me to work. I am a medical secretary so do not have special skills but we cannot afford to move out there if I am unable to work as we are taking our 7-year old and have to consider school fees etc. I would be grateful for any help. I don't have to work in the medical sector but admin/clerical is my field. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks
Kim

for either of you to work in Barbados you will each have to have a work permit. One would hope that the company your husband has been offered the job through has already gone through the process for him. If not, it could be a bit tricky. Your son will also need a Student Visa for school, which really can only be done once the work permit is done, and again you woulld not be able to work unless you have a work permit.

good luck.

Yes the company will be organising his visa. I just wanted to find out how difficult it would be for me to find work once we are out there as I don't have any specialist skills?

you will both be on visitors visa's even with his additional work permit. If the company decides after a time they can pay and apply for annual residency for your husband and yourself but this usually only happens after 1-2 years of employment as they have to pay for this. This will be an annual residency that you will have to reapply for each 12 months.

in this time your visa will disqualify you from working unless you secure a job as your husband has done and you get your own work visa - but in your field I would imgine that would be almost impossible as its not a skills shortage amongst Bajans.
