Really? I always thought it harked back to the old 'when a third of the map was pink' days.

Dave,

Just a suggestion, but when you've finished Uni, why not move to a different part of the country, its maybe just the place your living in that's bringing you down. You've got plenty of time to sort out where, do some research, spend a little time in a few different places to get the feel of the place, and go for it.

Its Friday and that's cause enough for celebration - another week on Planet Cyprus complete.

I'm actually off to Amsterdam in a few hours. Maybe a few of their special cakes will calm me down a bit

I never said I knew you. Totally don't want to either. Actually you're the most unbalanced, nasty poster I've ever read on here, but you're entitled to be, so hey carry on...! I won't be reading it though, life is too short and apparently a heatwave in Spain today. Sunbathing to do... and the Polo's on, that's me sorted.

P.S Newsflash: You didn't rattle any cages by critisizing the UK. Swearing and name calling usually do it. And this is you being happy???? Wow.

But it's OK to send Karma to Flea when only after her first few hours back in the UK she starts a post about how great Britain is.

You lot only read what you want to hear, any negative stuff you brush off and give the same excuse, "it happens in America as well you know" usually followed by a link to a local newspaper in your town reporting on a crime.
If I made a post like that against Canada in the Canadian forum or Australia in the Australia forum, I'd be flamed to toast in 5 minutes. I would imagine replies like " If you hate it so much why are you living here" would be the nice end of the spectrum.

I think he is getting better treatment here than we would in those forums.

What an interesting thread - I agree with some of the sentiments that there are some that just don't want to hear any 'bad news' about the UK regardless of whether it's media tripe or indeed fact - I must admit I have been guilty in the past of 'jumping' on anyone who slags the UK off - but the truth is, of course, the UK has got it's problems, just as Australia/Canada/US has it's problems.

I guess my best advice would be (if I'm trying to be really honest and balanced) is despite the problems here I still honestly feel the UK is a great place to live - and IMO preferable to Australia. I would never return to Oz to live. But of course it is such a personal thing - no-one is right and wrong - there is no perfect place that will please everyone - so although it is good to read the MBTTUK to get a bit of perspective I guess all you will find on here is personal preceptions rather than fact.

I think if you are moving back to the UK because you love it and miss it despite all it's problems (like I did) then you won't go far wrong. If you are moving back purely for family then maybe it is more likely you won't settle back here?

Whatever you do - good luck and be happy!

Wish I was coming with you....call in at the Windmill and have a drink on me.....I think wereever you live it is a state of mind.....each country has plus points and negative points...but deep down you have to make the best of what you have got....I still live in the UK and yes I get upset by what goes on especially in my home town which in the last year has been in the national eye more than any other town.....boasting teachers who refuse to take off their traditional religous head wear....more suicide bombers than any ohter town in the UK....A boy bieng beaten to death in the local park in broad daylight and the icing on the cake....A chav mother who has been neglecting her daughter the said daughter who got kidnapped by her mothers lovers uncle and held her captive for 24 days while her mothers lover trawled the internet for pornographic images of children....you couldn't make it up....but still this country is great for me...for the moment

Well, in comparison you've spent hardly any time at all in Australia and yet you're certainly not backwards in coming forwards with your low opinion of the place.

So in answer to your question.

No.

Don't think Grayling is having a go at Oz, think he's saying the he has a lot of experience living in UK, so is well qualified to say that Dave's rant isn't an accurate perception of life in GB.

Its got nothing to do with Oz.
