Default Book Club

Hi, all you bookworms in and around CE. This is to let you know that the Book Club (originally run at the Golf Club) will be reopening on April 2nd at Vista Verde (the old 19th Hole). Please give them your support as all monies raised goes to a very good cause. Best Wishes, Bryony

Hi, I have spoken to one of the ladies involved & she has said that, at the moment, she thinks it will run from 2-4pm. They are sharing the space with the Mosaics group as they now have to pay for use of the room🙁. If you drive into CE take the 3rd exit off the GC roundabout, drive passed a small hut/office on the left & then take the 1st turning on the left (can't remember the name). The street has villas on the left & apartments on the right. Keep driving until the road curves right & inbetween a couple of the villas you will see Vista Verde. It has a pool in the front. If anyone can give better directions please do as I don't like to think of people getting lost because of my terrible sense of direction😱

I have asked Bryony to put a further post on this thread to say what the good cause is for those of you who are not aware what the book club endeavours to achieve.

Just a quick update, this is basically a Book Swop & people can make a donation. All monies received then go to buy food parcels at Xmas for underprivileged families in Ayamonte. It has been running since 2008 but has recently had to take a brake due to the closure of the GC. Regards, Bryony

The building was formerly known as Jags Restaurant and later as Hoya19. It will re-open as a Social Club for the 49 Vila’s however it will be able to be used for wider social purposes. It will not initially be able to serve food and drinks. However I do think that in whatever way we are allowed we support this effort to widen the scope of what is available on ESURI. It is all to easy to self isolate here so every new initiative helps we should support it if we can!

So, If they do not serve any refreshments it will be rather an odd kind of place to visit. I can understand that if there is a purpose for the visit - like the book club - people will visit but there is nothing else really to keep them there. Plus of the 49 villas I doubt if more than 15 are actually occupied at any one time hence as a space to socialise it could get rather lonely. I realise that was why it was constructed but it is not commercially viable on that basis. A real shame. Much nicer to visit than the shop. Sour grapes there !

What can and cannot happen is dictated by the Ayuntamiento so far it is very limited particularly with a very vigilant neighbour who has managed to close the last two attempts. It is hoped it can be developed further with associate membership to widen the pool of interest. It should be possible to hold functions with outside caterers in the fullness of time.

Hi Esuri John, Yes I am aware of the English neighbor who was in cahoots with the powers that be. I haven't seen him there for ages and I thought his villa was up for sale last year ? I guess it's a start.
