Ayamonte info
I really am a clod- only just this minute noticed this specific forum for Ayamonte.
Have been reading up on this gorgeous area and would welcome any feedback from those of you who live/ have property there.
What's general climate like in winter ?
Are there any good shopping centres in the general area?
It must be great having 2 countries to peruse- are there any things specifically which you would nip into Portugal for?
Could ask you 100s of questions but any replies to these first few would be appreciated
Thanks

Cheers. One issue I am investigating is if driving from Faro aport to Ayamonte how does one pay the toll. Is it payable at a booth?

Welcome also. I would echo the advice to trawl through the Ayamonte threads on the sub forum. I would guess that all your questions will have been answered many timesover in the past. The toll question has been done to death both on here and on the Portugal forum. The search facility is good for more unusual requests.

Yip am working my way through the saga of the toll roads introduction- reading posts 2011 when there appeared to be issues about paying at the booth.
Now seems to be cred card operated system available at toll booth
Ps have to say whilst reading through reams of posts on here as well as very knowledgable members there are also some very witty ones too. Makes great reading

If you do not have a transponder then you can pay in a Post Office 2 days after you have travelled (which means you cannot pay for the trip back to the airport by this method!)
Some less reputable hirecos just say ignore the toll, but then the outstanding charge can fall to a subsequent hirer when in good faith they go to the Post Office (it happened to me and it could happen to you). So check the hireco details to ensure you get offered a transonder.
If you don't want to pay the cost of a transponder and the tolls then you will need to use the N125.

Re: Ayamonte info
When you choose a hire car, just make sure it has a transponder fitted; there are various different methods of paying. This is a gadjet fixed to the windscreen which registers each time you use the tolls. The tolls will be paid automatically either from money paid to the hire company or directly from your credit card (depending on which company) and you don't need to worry about them.

We bought in January and have made 5 trips so far this year booking Car Hire through Car Hire in Spain, Portugal, Malaga, Malta, Cyprus from all major airports - Economy Car Hire™ and have mostly used Drive4Fun, their Transponder charge is 20 Euros which gives you 15 Euros credit, the Tolls to Ayamonte from Faro Airport add up to 5 Euros, so 10 for the round trip, Cross Border is 10 Euros, both payable in cash when you pick up the car
Staff are friendly and speak good English. We initially were paying the extra cover Insurance per rental until we found out from this Forum that you can buy it for a years worth of Rental from Questor who Economy Car Hire use
We have another one booked for our trip in November and now get 10% discount as you get points with every booking once you register
Good luck

Argus just as a check, they are a drag as they don't give you all the charges up front.
This time for our next rental I got it all inclusive for less than a tenner (eur) a day from ECRental. They beat ECH for the first time in a while. So worth checking a few.. Cheap Car Rental, Best Prices for Rental Cars! - EconomyCarRentals.Com
