Tell me about Darwin Or the NT
Uk national looking for a way into oz. qualified teacher here but no shortage in oz it seems. However, I've just seen an ad for Darwin, saying they need more skilled workers inc. teachers. Apart from huge crocs, what do I need to know about Darwin and the Northern Territory?

It's hot but civilised. There was a big cyclone there around 40 years ago which virtually destroyed it. Maybe it could happen again.

Otherwise, it's sparsely populated (Darwin has the same population as Exeter with nothing else nearby) and only attracts/keeps the, shall we say 'interesting' - as can be seen by their newspaper, the infamous NT News.

Re: Tell me about Darwin Or the NT
I lived in the NT for four years when we first came to Australia. As said its always hot. Extremely humid in the wet season but the vegetation gets so green and lush and the storms are fabulous. The dry season more than makes up for the wet. Weather is gorgeous everyday. Very expensive to live there though, feels remote (cos it is) and the shopping choice is very limited. Close to Bali/Asia for quick getaways. We loved it but it's not for everyone and I know a few people who absolutely hated it x

I loved the NT I lived on Groote eylandt for 6 months. Darwin in comparison was so so. It is expensive it is also very remote. But if you like remote you will enjoy it. Downside is you cant really go in the sea. I did at a risk. I loved the nature up there but there is also a lot of tropical diseases up there. It is multicultural diverse and rich in culture. It might not be for everyone I am in my 20s and think I am an odd ball as my other friends honestly couldnt wait to get back to city life. But its like anything in life. One thing doesnt fit all

NT? Would have loved to live there.
It's everything everyone says about it but to experience it is something else.
Grab it if you can.
Breathtaking in so many ways. The good and the bad.
