hi Donna,

One thing that has probably changed quite is regulation and consumer protection, I don't know if moving companies were hot on this when you went over, but now we would strongly suggest looking for certified companies (FIDI FAIM) and making sure you have financial protection (BAR Overseas advance payment guarantee) are wise choices to make sure you're choosing a reputable mover and protected in the event that something goes wrong.

There are also lots of review sites that didn't exist 12 years ago, Which? Trusted Trader and the BAR's Trusted Mover are a few worth checking out.

Any other questions I can help with for shipping i'm on hand over in our BE partner forum (Overseas Removals, Shipping & Storage Advice and Information from Bournes International Moves - British Expats) where there are some other useful posts and tools to help with finding and choosing shippers too, but i'm sure the other members will be able to share lots of recent experiences to help you too!

Good luck!

Hi Donna,
We are emigrating at the end of the year and are just in the process of obtaining 4 quotes. I did a search on the forums and also general reviews and it seems that there are good and bad reviews and experiences on most of the companies. We have opted for quotes from Brittania, Bournes, Robinsons and PSS....one company have been around so far, the others will be around in the next 2 weeks.
Sorry I can't be any more helpful at this moment in time, but I will let you know how we get on.

Hi Donna, i shipped tools (200kg) over from the Uk to Sydney using PSS removals. Theyre a UK company. They are very helpful and a decent price. I also changed my mind and had the tools sent Air Freight in the end. But they sorted the whole thing.
Hope this helps
