Hi there,

New to these forums and Melbourne, but not Australia...

So I've recently relocated to Melbourne, and have been growing to miss expat pub night. My friend in Sydney has been organising said weekly event in Sydney for some time now (not sure who he is on the forums though as I came along via work invite) and thought I would try to set up the same thing here as I don't seem to see anyone else doing it.

So, simple premise. Get together Thursday night for a pint or two in the city or nearby, have a laugh or two, life is grand. Any interest?

Sounds like we have a ready made meet up, which makes moving far less scary! I will post again when I arrive to make a plan (hopefully early August, although still waiting for my 457 to come through before I book my flight!). Liz

Just to get this moving, the OP Farnsworth talked about meeting on a Thursday. How about meeting on the 14th? Could the people on this thread make that day?

Farnsworth - did you have any specific pub in mind?

JMC1648 - where did you use to have your meet-ups in the past?

Me and my wife have been in Melbourne since May and would be interested in meeting up. 14th would be ok for us.

That would work for me. I've just got my visa through, I arrive on 10th and start my new job on 14th, so it will be nice to have a drink after day 1! I'll be working near to top of Elizabeth Street, so somewhere fairly central would be good for me.

So, let's get together for a Melbourne meet! If you will allow me to take the lead on this one, let's meet at 18:00 on Thursday 14th August, at The Sherlock Holmes, Basement 415 Collins St. Melbourne.

As we may be a fairly small group initially, this smaller pub should be OK for size.

I don't want to be a party pooper but I think we will struggle to make tomorrow night. Early evening on a weeknight is a bit tricky with kid's bedtimes. We'll see if we can sort something out but we definitely wouldn't make it by 6:00.

I am quite keen to get this new tradition started though, so don't take this as chickening out but don't rely on us tomorrow night.

I actually have to cancel tomorrow, as I now need to attend a late appointment that day - not a good start for the Melbourne social

But Melbourne definitely needs a regular social event!
