Smile Paramedic Info/courses

Hi all,

my wife and i are planning to move over in March 2017, my wife is a nurse and meets the criteria for the nursing needs and me feeling like a lump am in need of some advice.

>Im a foundation degree paramedic in my final year of leaving the British Army,

and I'm thinking is there any desirable courses to have as a Paramedic in Oz?

>I'm doing a online RPL course with Wilson medic One to convert my current

qualification into a Australian equivalent are they any good?

Any Advice would be gratefully received.

All the best

Craig

As your question is nothing to do with visas, it might be worth asking a mod to move to the main Australia forum where it will be seen by more people.

This section of the forum is frequented most by people that haven't moved to Australia yet and a handful of regulars, but I don't think any of us are paramedics.

I am not sure where you intend to come but I do know that newly qualified paramedics in SA are not getting jobs here. Most are going to UK or NT.

Although they have brought many over in the past, QAS (Queensland) is not recruiting internationally/sponsoring at present - I believe there are plenty of potential recruits onshore already. They may sponsor again in the future but I can't see it being in the near future. Plus since newman's axe fell a couple of years ago there are also plenty of trained paramedics around needing jobs.

My dad was a paramedic for 50yrs before retiring, he teaches, advices and writes books nowadays, everytime he comes to Oz and has had questions, he contacts St John of God ambulance service and they are quick to respond. Maybe contact them for advice?
I'd paste the link but for some reason BE hasn't allowed that for weeks when on iPad.

No worries, any guestions just shoot this way, long time ago I also qualified in the family trade (nurse specialising in emergency services), haven't done it in 17yrs but every time my dad writes a new book ( latest involved RFDS) I'm the point of contact in Oz. In all honesty SJOG is and should be your first point of call, they operate with volunteers and paid staff, most paid staff got their position through volunteer work. Best to be prepared to build the contacts that way.

Interesting - can you copy n paste elsewhere - is it only BE thats the problem? Or could it be the ipad itself, not seen anyone else with an issue (yet).

As far as I know its the only state that works that way too (though willing to be corrected on that).
