Hi, do you mean you are qualified now - or will be newly qualified when you wish to emigrate?

You will need a minimum of 12 months post grad to attract sponsorship, however, nobody can predict what may happen a year from now.

You will also need to obtain registration in Australia ASAP. Without this you are unlikely to attract an interview, let alone a job offer.

Australian hospitals are under pressure to appoint Australian nurses, especially with regards to newly qualified or those with minimal post grad experience.

We are continuously advertising (both in Australia and the UK) for qualified, experienced, Registered Nurses and Theatre is an area of shortage in Oz. Our vacancies are listed on our web site.

You can approach hospitals yourself, but bear in mind that many of them prefer to use an agency to recruit overseas nurses, as we tend to do all the pre-qualification work before presenting candidates to employers.

You are very specific about your required location, this sometimes works against you so do consider wider options. (Having said that CURRENTLY, we have opportunities on the Sunshine Coast, but agin, cannot predict next year's requirements).

If you require any further info, please vist the web site and drop me an email.

Regards

Would I be able to get a sponsored visa there?
Where do I need to look to try to get one? I was thinking about contacting hospitals directly, but I'm not sure if this is the right way to go.
Thank you

Thank you.
I am already qualified and working in Theatres.
By the time of the move, I'll have more than a year of experience. I also top up my hours working for an agency on different wards and nursing homes.
It is difficult to have a wide range of places to go as I have 2 children. Therefore, I need to look into schools as well as my job opportunities
I'll have a look at your website.
Thank you for the advice

The cut off for lodging of both PR and 457 sponsored applications is 50. This means you have to have your application lodged PRIOR to your 50th birthday. However, if you are applying for a sponsored role, you need to consider that your 457 visa runs for up to 4 years; meaning that when you approach the employer for them to support a PR application, you need to be 49 when you lodge that one. So, if you get a sponsored role BEFORE you turn 46, you should be OK with your later 457 to PR submission.

Added to which it is not as easy as it used to be to meet all the requirements for a 457 once over 45, or to qualify for PR wth or without sponsorship between 45 and 50.
Anyone planning to do it needs to check all the requirements on www.immi.gov.au as well as looking into sponsorship options

Hi Genorm,

Just wondering how often you get jobs in mental health? Are there jobs available at present? Do you think there's a good chance of sponsored employment? Every time I look there appears to be less and less.

I cant seem to find them online, which is why people use agencies I guess.

Thanks
Yvette

Hi Yvette,

It depends on where you are prepared to go. Most of the positions we advertise are in major centres, ie major cities and some regional larger cities/towns (such as Alice Springs, Cairns, etc.)

A few vacancies for MHNs came up recently in Sydney, but because the role and the location are so popular, we haven't actually advertsied them. However, once we have all of your details in place, we can search specifically for you as a candidate.

Hope this helps.

I'm still just weighting up visa options, id prefer to go for the 457 but if there isnt the work then it may have to be a PR.

Thanks again

Hi I'm looking at coming out to Australia to work, not sure yet on sponsorship as after recently travelling Australia I'm unsure where I'd like to settle. Planning on a working holiday visa to try a few states out. I've been a quailed nurse just over two years working in a surgical emergency admissions unit. Is there any help you could give me on agencies etc would like to work in cairns, brisbane and melbourne and then look into sponsorship opportunities! Any information would be a great help! There's so much out there hard to know where to start!
