Default Your Advice/ Ideas

I am applying to migrate to OZ via the skilled migration route, I have got my Skills assessment back and have just submitted for my visa.

When all is complete my partner and I would like to migrate, but we are unsure on what area we would probably enjoy the most. We are both 26 and really love peaceful places and lovely scenery. Neither of us are pub, club or city fans.

From what we have heard Melbourne or Adelaide sounds to our liking. Does anyone have any good/bad feedback about these areas so that when we arrive we have a good idea what we have let ourselves in for.

Also I am keen to know what the IT jobs market is like in these areas as I have been told that there are fewer and fewer jobs available. I do have 9 years experiance so I would hope that would help me?

Thanks

For IT....you really would have to head for one of the 2 bigger cities (melbourne/sydney) or perhaps Canberra.

I don't work in IT....so take this with a pinch of salt...

From what i've read/heard, the IT industry is not too hot in oz. You should be able to find work, but its more likely to be at the service end of the industry, rather than the enterprise level. I have read quite a few times that there are tech support/helpdesk type jobs coming up with fair regularity.

If you narrowed it down to Syd or Melb, i would personally choose Melb. I prefer the city, and i also prefer the surrounding country. Houses are a bit cheaper and the place is a touch more affordable.

Cheers

Pete.

That 's what I'd heard. about IT. I guess I'm not too worried about what I do as long as it is a job. It is sounding more and more like we are going to check out Melb.

Thanks

Unless you are brave and you can afford it, take a nice long holiday and have a look for yourself. Only way to be sure.LMS

IT in Perth is bad, really bad. Have a mate in Melbourne who says its not much better there and what there is pays peanuts.

Its very much a case of who you know so if you can make contacts and get some leads before you go it will be of benefit.

If you have multiple skills rather than specialist make up a few CVs highlighting each skill more than the other that way you can send the best CV for the job. !!

Also useful build yourself a website and scan all your references, certificates etc. and add copy of CV. Much easier to point people to that than carry loads of junk with you. Shows a bit of initiative which they seem to like here. Also useful for other trades.

Good luck
