Default young couple thinking of moving to oz

hi all

were a young married couple thinking of taking the plunge to oz, more than likely the sydney area(outskirts/suburbs), basically weve been browsing this site, but wed also like a load of help, hopefully to answer our questions.

im 28, currently working in smart repair in the uk(very minor car repairs, such as alloys, small bumper scuffs, dents) at a main car dealer, i have also been a car valetor for 5/6 years before this, and delivery driving before that (ive had a few jobs).

the wife is 23 and a fully qualified plumber and heating engineer, gas safe registered with all water regs and related qualifications, and has been in the trade for 7 years in the uk.

now for some questions.

would it be relatively easy for me to get work in what i am doing/ have done in the past? and in or around sydney? ( not city centre ). and any ideas on pay?

and basically the same for the wife, getting the work? shed rather get onto just working with gas ( for example fitting gas meters/repairing ) kinda like working for a gas board, and hours/wages??

ok would also like to know

rough price on exporting a rottweiller out there and time frames of leaving her in the uk/ and collecting her in oz, do they have a vet with them when they travel? also do they get fed/water on the plane? anyone can explain how it all works??

same with a cat??

rough price on a container/charges on shipping household items (pc,tvs, consoles, cds etc etc) or is it best to buy new when there?

i think that'll do for now hope anyone can help us

Cant possibly help with the pets questions.

Your wife should have no trouble getting work, although you will probably need to be out there for her to get a job offer. No idea about you, sorry.

One thing to be aware of, dont narrow your choices down too much. Sydney is where everyone thinks about when they think of Aus, but it is one of the most expensive cities to live in and apparently THE most expensive in Aus.

Hope that helps.

If you think you are capable of finding work in UK then you will be capable of finding work in Australia. Plenty of cars to be fixed and plumbing that needs doing. The question you need to focus on is can you get a visa. I wonder if your OH might be the better main candidate, have a read about skilled migration on www.immi.gov.au.

Your pets will travel in the cargo hold, no there won't be a vet in there with them They get water but they won't be fed, you can pick them up after 30 days in quarantine so long as you have them vaccinated for rabies (which you should look into long before you move). I am not sure how big rottweilers are, but you would easily be looking at a few thousand £ I should think.
