Default Young babies and healthcare

Hi, we are a family of three and expect our second, a little boy, in may.
We are looking at arriving sometime within 6mth of birth of our new arrival.
Is there a health care program, as per uk, to monitor the progress of the childs development and do children up to a certain age recieve free healthcare or antenatal care for new-ish mothers
Or would it be advisable to hang on and wait until the child reaches 12mths of age?

Any advice on this

Equivalent of the NHS = Medicare.

Will you be permanent residents on arrival?

I don't think any medical insurance is included. but it's a good question to ask.

We are in similar position but are permanent residents, we will be leaving 6 weeks after birth of our second.
Will it make a difference if we are on a PR visa or not?
What will we be entitled to? Whats NHS=Medicare?
Would there be free check-ups, vaccinations etc.
Thanks guys.

If you are coming from the UK on a 457 visa then you will be covered under Medicare for the birth and afterwards.

but there is no such thing as free dental care- you pay for it regardless of your pregnancy/otherwise.

I guess you would also need to register yourselves with the local Maternal and Child Health Nurse and this will enable your child to have its periodic checks (8mth on beyond, also vaccinations)
