I know that Vodofone has unlock codes for some phones. Is there a virgin outlet that could help? I know we had to get our UK Vodafones unlocked here in Oz before we could use our Oz Vodafone PAYG Sim.

Cheers and good luck with things.

We have Virgin PAYG phones here: Virgin in Warringah Mall unlocked them for free and we bought Tesco sim cards for use in the UK - went fine.

We have to make a brief call on the Tesco sims every 6 months to keep it active and preserve the credit so that we can use it when we go to the UK for a vacation but otherwise that's it!

My guess would be that as you are going virgin>virgin it should be ok.
If not, then google 'unlock codes' for your phone and you may be able to find one free online. If that fails, you can pay a few quid and get one off someone online. If THAT fails then ring virgin, who might charge you up to about £20. (That is in the UK, but if it's an Oz phone then I'd talk to virgin in Oz).

OR, depending on how long you are in the UK, buy an outofdate handset on ebay to use whilst you are here - could get one for under £20.
