removals booked for 21/22nd Oct hoping to get flights for 1st week in Nov.

In reply to Tinaj - NO! NZ PR processing takes a few weeks, someone here posted a month or so back it took 8 days! Normally, allow about 3 months from London NZIS at the moment as there's a fair degree of document verification for NZIS. A 'tricky' application might be 6 months, an 'easy' one 3 or 4 weeks.

Looks like its a week for visas from NZ - ours came special delivery this morning!! Our application took 3 weeks to get a letter saying we could go via the work to residence route (need the extra points!) and a further 2 1/2 weeks for the work visa to come back. Just looking at flights as we speak.

Congratulations too Ian, Paula and family - we're heading to Christchurch too! Let us know how you go on as you'll be there first.

Which removals firm did you eventually decide on? - any details?

Hi Lizzie,

Our visa application went in on the 9/9/02 and our agent rang yesterday so it took 2 weeks for approval, I haven't had any direct communication with NZIS as our agent has done all that for us. He is in possesion of all our paperwork (birth certs,passports etc) so he is going to drop the passports into them for the visas to be issued today. Our visa was quick because going on the work-to-residence talent visa means we didn't have to pass the points test. We had to send evidence of qualifications/work experience, a copy of his offer of employment, medicals & police checks.

We eventually decided on PSS for removals as they were the cheapest at £2691.00 for a reefer container 20' door to door. I reckon by the time youv'e added on insurance etc approx £3000. Pickfords & Whites were £2950 + ins and Anglo Pacific were £3100 + ins. I think it may have helped that I let the man from PSS know how much Pickfords had quoted so he knew what he needed to come in under.
Just got to book the flights now don't know wether to try high street or internet as you may of seen from my other post I'm looking for advise re the extra baggage allowance I've heard you can get.
Just seen the bank manager about a letter of introduction for an NZ bank account.

Internet or phone for the flights, pay by credit card for safety (e.g.
bonding) - don't forget one way insurance for the group (about £100). If you
have your visa stickers tell them and request an immigrant fare; that'll get
you the extra baggage. Even though we didn't have the stickers we somehow
got 32 kg each on Malaysia Airlines. Qantas via the US give 64kg each (the
woman didn't like my suggetsion of taking the washing machine mas baggage!)
Only Air NZ and Singapore fly direct to CHC - it may be worthwhile booking
to AKL (more choice of deals) and book a one way internal domestic to CHC.
After 1 Nov Air NZ goes low cost on domestic so the price can be as low as
NZ$59. Also check out Qantas and Origin Pacific, who'll match those deals.
Also, here is an unusal tip - check prices from places like Paris and
Amsterdam - sometimes you can get good deals (e.g sub £350 one way), and you
can get there on easyJet - one of our mates went back that way and save
NZ$400.

Re. the removals - they all want the work, so it is worth playing one off
against the others - seems a decnt rate - we paid £3200 including insurance.
It is a weird feeling seeing all your possessions disappear, but it is like
Xmas when they arrive - especially for the kids.

Keep us updated of your plans/fares/progress, etc, especially as I have
friends coming roughly the same time.
