Wynn Vale (Adelaide) and houses in hills
Hi guys
We've started looking at houses now and found one we quite like in Wynn Vale. It's built into the side of a hill pretty much - and we're not sure whether this might throw up a whole new set of issues we're not aware of. Anyone else bought a house 'in' a hill? It can't be too worrying as there are plenty of them about but any pointers/reassurance would be great. Also, if anyone knows anything about Wynn Vale that would be great - Wendy if you're out there today what's your take on it as it's not too far from you is it? Thanks in advance :D |
Re: Wynn Vale (Adelaide) and houses in hills
Can't say anything about that suburb.
We have bought a house on a side of a hill. Important things to check: - get a survey done - check the reatining walls - check the neigbours - check the drainage One thing to keep in mind is that a property on a slope might have a lot of square meters of land but frequently big part of it is of not much use, just for bushes and trees. Advatages: - space, as in such a place they can not built houses too close to each other you might be able to avoid having your neighbour house just a meter off the fence. - view, with a good location you can have a great sunset views.:thumbsup::thumbsup: - with many houses on the hills built in the 70's you might get lucky and get a proper solid one, not a couple sheets of plasterboard on matchstick frame. |

Thanks Mipik, I take it you just got a regular survey done then? I was wondering if there were specialists in that kind of thing.

Re: Wynn Vale (Adelaide) and houses in hills
Just a regular survey.
Thing is I have a pretty good idea as far as construction goes so I had a survey done just in case I had missed something important. I didn't. But I have learned a few things from the surveyor as well. To be honest I am very happy with the house choice we made. |
Re: Wynn Vale (Adelaide) and houses in hills
That's great news, if you know your stuff and still bought one that makes me feel better about considering getting one. Would you mind telling me which surveyor you used? Of course if you'd rather not that's fine.

Thanks in advance :D We looked in Wynn Vale and it seems really nice, however because I didn't drive we dismissed it as I wanted somewhere flat(had enough waliking up and down them in the UK!). That's about as much as I know about the place :D my Aunt loves it though if that helps, she lived there for a while about 12 years ago and said she would happily live there again. Get some more opinions though as my Aunt loves everywhere in SA :D |

I was starting to wonder where you were :D
It's a lovely area and hills don't worry me too much, it just almost seems TOO nice if you know what I mean. Probably a hangover from my cynical upbringing in the UK! |

Having lived in SA for 31 years I can honestly say that Wynn Vale is quite a nice suburb :)

Hi Emma
One of my ozzie friends has just moved from there. She swears by it and is upping sticks and moving back. Julia.:) |
