We often take our boat there and go out on Brisbane Water. Its a nice place, but probably not that good if you think its commutable to anywhere other than perhaps Gosford.

There is a train station there and many people commute to Sydney each day. Others travel by car on the F3. Not a great fan of Woy Woy itself but there are plenty places around it I wouldn't mind living in.

Agree with that, Woy Woy itself not so brilliant but Gosford is ok and some lovely beach towns around.

should have added that they are quiet places. Terrigal is more touristy. As said before some lovely areas around here and woy woy (or Umina) are probably not the most desirable location wise but as many Sydney siders come here for their hols cant be that bad. Also house prices are more affordable in this area. I like the fact that you dont need transport to live here as good bus and train links (plus a ferry to palm beach). I always advise people to rent for 6 months first to see if they like it, applies anywhere really, one persons trash is another ones gold.

If you want really close to Woy Woy I would say Umina, Ettalong, Booker Bay or Pearl Beach. However, if you don't mind being further away there many beautiful places on the Central Coast.
Just had a thought Kilcare insn't too far way either.

Spike Milligan spent time at Woy Woy referring to it as "the world's only above-ground cemetery".

I live in Umina next suburb, I like it here, its close to all amenities has good train links to the city. Much prefer Woy woy to Gosford. There are good parts and bad parts like any town. Depends what you are after. Are you thinking of coming her Herrchook.

Woy Woy was just the first town that sprung to mind when we started researching that neck of the woods. Def not restricting any searches and open to all suggestions of smallish coastal towns in NSW suitable for families that are less than 1.5 hrs train ride to Sydney CBD.

His parents and brother moved there many years ago. I believe his parents died there and brother is still there the last I heard. It was still like that 40 years ago, but, thankfully, it has changed a bit since then!
