Is it worth shipping our car?
Hi guys,
We're moving to Aus in 2017 and considering shipping our car over. It's a 2015 Hyundai IX35 and when we looked at the same model in Australia, it's waaaay more expensive.
Has anyone got experience of doing this when they moved?
I've been quoted £1100 for the shipping fees but I know there are various other fees to pay when it arrives in Adelaide. Just wondering if it's worthwhile?
Thoughts?

Moving car would cost anywhere between £6000-£11000 depending on price of the car, age, etc. Because apart from shipping, you would spending on customs, cleaning, registration, marine insurance, etc. There are so many tools online which would help you calculate if it is worth taking the car with yourself.

Don't forget you will loose access to the car for approx 3 months (time it takes to get here) and so will require to hire until it does.
Also does it have a/c as it's really needed in Oz.
Another cost will be replacing the fascia panel because the speedo must only show Kms / hour, it cannot be the dual type's like in the UK.
Their are numerous other requirements so IMHO it's not worth it.

Sometimes they ask for A/C refrigerant to be evacuated before shipping, you may need documentation to show its been done. Then it will need re-gassing when it arrives. I had to do this on a car I imported a few years ago. Customs duty and GST is also charged on the value of the car, 10% plus 10%.

You can buy a brand new iX35 for about $25k. Or buy my 2013 model iX35 for $18k. It's very low mileage (approx 55000), full service history (shacked up with a mechanic so he takes great care of it), interior and body in excellent condition (leather seats, no scratches on the paintwork). I'm in Perth if you're interested in it.
