Something like this:

Real examples:
  • Oooh it's too cold / wet
  • Oh it's so expensive here (generally followed by some story based on life in the 1990s maybe about how it's "dollars for pounds"
  • The broccoli tastes funny
  • The sunscreen doesn't work properly, I get it sent over from Aus
  • The TV is rubbish
  • etc etc etc

So really, no different!

I have an Aussie friend (whom I love dearly) that lived with me in the UK and I have never know anyone moan as much as she did. It actually wore me down.

But that's understandable surely, they're in the UK for heaven's sake....not God's own country! ;)

Remember cuddles in the kitchen, to get things off the ground?

That on a day like today when you're all argumentative, and you've got the face on

I first encountered the word 'mardy' when living in Leicester. It is apparently a localised term to mean a person is being grumpy, as in:

"Fred was really mardy when I gave him all that additional work to do..."

I had never heard of it prior to moving to Leicester, and until it was explained to me always assumed it had something to do with a French Tuesday.

I'm not sure if it gets used elsewhere in the Midlands, or just in Leicester, though I have heard it being used in the rest of the county.
