I first encountered the word 'mardy' when living in Leicester. It is apparently a localised term to mean a person is being grumpy, as in: "Fred was really mardy when I gave him all that additional work to do..." I had never heard of it prior to moving to Leicester, and until it was explained to me always assumed it had something to do with a French Tuesday. I'm not sure if it gets used elsewhere in the Midlands, or just in Leicester, though I have heard it being used in the rest of the county. S |
