Worrying Stat
Just watched channel 4, the story about the missing/presumed dead backpacker Peter Falconio. One statement/remark made by the narrator was that Adelaide is the MURDER capitol of the world.
Any thoughts from the group Colin |

I've lived here in Adelaide for over 2 years and can think of dozens of other cities which would fit the bill. Yes there is some crime here ,trouble is that anything serious does make bigger headlines than in other cities due to the quieter nature of Adelaide. DON"T let that rubbish put you off.............it was an unwarranted comment. Cheers Russell -- Luck is when the paths of opportunity and preparation cross. |
Re: Worrying Stat
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics there were 29 murders in the State
of South Australia in the year 2001, there is no break down of locations but I would guess a majority occurred in Adelaide. this figure is 4th highest behind the States of NSW, Vic and Qld. The rate of murders in South Australia per 100,000 for the same period was 1.9 which is above the Australian average of 1.6. Since 1993 the average number of murders per 100,000 has reduced from 1.7 to 1.6. Peter Falconio went missing in the Northern Territory too, just to be clear. For a more detailed breakdown have a look at: http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs%4...682000131612/7 6c8926bd8a12e1fca2568a9001393f2!OpenDocument Cheers Rob Edwards www.australianaustralia.com |
Re: Worrying Stat
Hard to believe that Adelaide that is often referred to as the City of Churches could
in any one's wildest dreams be referred to as the Murder capital of the World, see my other post on this subject, in 2001 the figures are 1.9 per 100,000. This reference is far too bizarre to be taken seriously. |
Re: Worrying Stat
What utter nonsense,
I have been to adelaide several times and the region gives off nothing but safe vibes. If you avoid elizabeth[suburb],couple of dodgy pubs in the city and chucking out time on jetty rd glenelg you will not find a more tranquill city. This narrator should come and visit romford on a satuday night that would really freak him out! |
Re: Worrying Stat
I picked up on that "statistic" too and I would be interested to see how they arrive at that conclusion. Look out Bogota, Columbia - here comes Adelaide !
A couple of years ago, the Chief Constable of West Yorks Met Police was quoted as saying that policing Wakefield on a Saturday night is like policing Beirut. A TV crew was dispatched to ride around in a Police Van to film the carnage. Nothing happened and at the end of the night their most action-packed footage was of a drunken woman falling over and dropping her pizza......... |
Re: Worrying Stat
What type of pizza was it?
