Worried about Emigrating?

Worried about Emigrating to Australia?

Have you let yourself go?

Lilly white legs maybe?

Or are you just plain FAT!

Well don't be worried.
Australia has it all!
In fact Australia has the 2nd highest rate of obesity in the world, and would be the world leader, if it weren't for it's diminishing population.

So C'mon! What ya waitin' for Mate?

Emigrate to the lucky country...TODAY! :D

I guess you are attempting to make capital out of a very small survey and subsequent
medical comment relative to some children that recently appeared in the news here,
never let the facts get in the way of a good story as the old media saying goes.

Wow, I thought your average Aussie was too poor to afford good eating. Some of the
sob stories on this newsgroup would make you consider the diet and hence physique of
the typical Australian to be comparable to much of the third world.

As obesity and affluence are closely related something is not adding up!

Re: Worried about Emigrating?

Boy, we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here, looking for negatives. From some of the comments, you'd think that obesity is strictly an American and Australian problem and that if you live anywhere else, you'll be immune from weight problems.

Whether a country is 1st, 2nd, 8th or 19th on the Obesity Scale, does it really matter? What differences are we talking about? 1% 1.2% 2% ??

Did a quick search on the net for Obesity, and oh dear, surprise, surprise, but nobody's safe!!! Eeek! It's everywhere, not just Australia. Not just Western, developed countries either. Countries like Egypt, Chile, Uzbekhistan, etc. Even some African countries where there are starving kids, there are more obese ones! So if you're afraid of being overweight, not migrating isn't going to keep your butt from expanding, sorry.

Anyway, the point of this message thread is ????

Tis true, went up to a whooping 69kg when I first arrived in Oz and overdosed on
fast food ;-)

Well actually, they are related but not the way you might think. Obesity is
particularly common among poorer sections of society because cheap junk food is much
more fattening than some healthier foods which can cost significantly more. Also, a
lot of affluent people mitigate their high fat diets by going to the local gym to
pose for a couple of hours each week. It doesn't have a great effect but any exercise
is better than none. Of course I'm referring to so called "developed" societies where
even junk food contains enough vitamins and minerals to keep the body relatively
healthy. The problem in the third world is entirely different where there is simply
not enough food to go round, and the basic dietary needs of the population are not
met. Contrast this with America for example, where a "coffee" from a drive through
consists of a steaming cup of liquid accompanied by a box "Timbit" doughnuts. I made
the mistake once in Boston of getting an American friend just what he asked for, a
coffee. When I gave it to him, he asked, "where's the Timbits", and this was just
after breakfast!

Oh, and as for he initial troll that started this thread, that was a complete load of
bollocks. Population diminishing indeed!
