Default a working week

Hi Readers
Can anyone tell me what the average working week is in Oz.
Do they tend to do only 35 hrs a week or 40+ hrs.
This will enable a rough calculation of my average pay per week and hence give a guide to the mortgage I can sustain.
I am particularly interested in working hours for "trade" type jobs.

Thanks

DJ

Seriously none of the lads I met worked longer hours than I do here in the U.K unless they wanted a bit of extra cash. "Barrow jobs", "Guvvies" "Cashers" call em whatever, they were done all the time as well just like UK. Loads of cash changes hands and the government looses out on the tax. One of PB's little hates was the "dodgy tradesman" the reason everyone paid so much tax especially him.
There's just as many cowboy builders despite the licensing rigmarole and yes if there is a downturn in the housing boom work will be hard to get just as it was during the last 2 recessions we had here in the 80's and early 90's.
