Default working holiday visa-driving licence

I am possibly going over to australia on a working holiday visa in the next 8-9 months i was wondering can i drive for a year with my uk driving licence or do i need to apply for a australian licence.

Also i am thinking or about to apply for a skilled visa and skills assessment and if i qualify and i am over there while granted visa do i need to leave australia and then come back to validate it as this is my plan or hopes that i can be over there when i am granted one so i can then validate it at same time saving me a return journey to validate it.
Then just go over there when ready to do so.

to get to be a citizen of australia i beleive you need to be there 2 years does any time i am over there when after granted/validated visa count towards that 2 years and does or can there be breaks in that or a solid 2 years is required as it would be usefull again i was over there and some of that time over there counted towards that 2 years

can anyone recommend what i should look for sort out or apply for when over there on a working holiday visa and if granted a skilled visa just so i know in advance as if granted one i can do this when over there if its granted in time

thanks for any help

Not sure with regards to WHV and driving licence - with Permanent Residency (PR) need within a few months have done a test in Australia - check their immig website should be able to answer.

As for PR visa - Im pretty sure you have to leave Aus. Before you can apply for visa have to get a skills assessment which can take a while sometimes - not sure if this is made easier or not if you are based in Aus - timewise maybe - - however if you are serious about this go onto immig website and download booklet 6 read it in conjunction with the other forms your going to need to fill in - it should contain most if not all of the answers.

time before visa validated does not count - at least I dont think so

Others should respond to your email - those who have gone the same route as you intend to so can be more concise.

Either way all the best

Check out the info on:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au

I know it's for NSW, but I'm pretty sure they have links for other states.

You can drive for 12 months on your UK licence with a WHV, it's only if you become resident that they expect you to get a local licience (but not sure how long you have).
