Working Conditions in my mob
Had an email from my mgr - who has always been a good bloke. He's an ex footballer and all round sort, not a nerd or obsessive industry man.
He's not the sharpest bloke, but he has always been a winner in the old fashioned leadership stakes. He just oozes it. I think he likes me because he can count on me not to be the usual IT nerdy type because I'm not the best bloke he's ever managed by half.
Anyhow, his latest declaration is that we are all allowed to count a 2hr Friday lunch as part of our official 37hr week, as he wants to create a culture where time spent at desks is not as important as the good work we do.
(In 10 years, I've only met 2 managers I'd rate and recognise as leaders, and good leaders at that - and both were Australian; he is one of them).

Careful, he'll probably want you to repay him with a reacharound.

I've had two great bosses like that - both entrepreneurs (one self-made, one Cambridge grad/silver spoon). As examples, one used to take me to the the local cafe if I came in with a hangover and the other let me borrow his TVR for Adam to use on his birthday I've never worked in happier environments with employees who'd go the extra mile for the boss/company - it's not rocket science, but not common practice I fear!
