Hello All,

This is our first post. We are already in the emigration process having submitted our skills assessment and submitted our 47SK forms to the agents.

I am a freelance engineer working for BT on a very big IT project. The system is not going live until 2010 and potentially I would like to offer my services to my boss.

Apart from the obvious problems when it comes to time differences and travelling needed to get to England for meetings, etc, can any of the smarties out there see any pitfalls with payment, tax implications, etc? This could mean that I earn UK wages whilst living the dream, which would be nice ;).

Mark, if you live in Oz more than 183 days a year you will pay tax on all income earned globally regardless of which country it was earned in. UK/Oz have a dual taxation agreement so you won't pay twice - but you will pay the higher rate.

I suggest you speak to a tax specialist such as Alan Collett on www.gomatilda.com. He seems to be recommended on the forum although I have not used him myself.

Cheers for that. My thoughts at the moment is contacting someone about setting up a Ltd company and working as a contractor in Australia.

It sounds very similar to the tax implications of a position I was offered working for Airbus in Germany. As long as I only spent a small amount in UK, then the Tax savings was very favourable, but, having a young family, I wanted to fly home every weekend, and therefore Gordon Brown would hit me quite heavily with PAYE!!

Has anyone transfered their Ltd company from UK? I suppose if I set up another company office in Brisbane, I could have a van with 'KAMM Technical Services Ltd - Milton Keynes, Brisbane and New York' on the side!! :rolleyes:
