Workers compensation claims

Does anyone know the consequences of making a workers compo claim ? i.e does it go against you in the future ? The reason I ask this is that you get asked when applying for loan, new job etc if you have made a claim in the past.

My husband works for a large organisation and had a small accident at work. The doctors bill would have been minimal ($100 kind of figure). His work told him he HAD TO make a claim and forced him into it as they said they could not afford the medical bill !

Any thoughts ??

As far as i know he shouldn't have to answer those questions on future applications. Ie the company can't ask you if you've had claims before as it could be interpreted as discrimination if you say yes and then don't get the job. They may ask you after offering you the job I guess, but I thought the only question they could ask is what injuries or illnesses you have had, not weather you received workers compensation for anything.
