Default Work wear - long or short sleeve shirts?

We're heading to Perth in June/July on my 457 visa. My husband will be looking for work in due course, he's currently a lawyer but will be looking for anything in admin initially. He's a bit phobic about short sleeved work shirts, but I think he'll look a bit of a pommie idiot in long sleeves in Perth.

Can anyone help.?

I work in your typical office environment, in Sydney and it can get hot here too, but never seen any of the chaps in short sleeved shirts ... and I would not let Mr BS leave the house in one either (going to work that is).

No, I agree about the aesthetics of short sleeved shirts, but was just concerned about him fitting in.. Hmmm, any info from Perth dwellers..?

I wasn't really meaning the aesthetics, I was commenting that short sleeves are not the done thing. I think there is a distinct possibility he would look like more of a pommie idiot in short sleeves.

Anyway you're right, perhaps it is completely different in Perth, I am sure somebody will enlighten us both shortly.

Edit: I also travel intra-state a lot, although not to Perth, never seen short sleeves in Melbourne of Brisbane either.

Never saw anyone wear short sleeved shirts...Melbourne or Brisbane. My current client requires shirt, tie & jacket...hot or not!

I work in local government there are more long sleves than short, some people wear ties others dont but like others have said short sleeves aren't a good look. I'm in Brisbane by the way and when I wonder around the Cbd most workers have long sleeves.

I generally wear short-sleeved shirts, couldn't give a monkey's what anyone else thinks, just picked up a decent paying contract too so I might add some pens to the top pocket to complete the look.

It's never too hot in air-conditioned offices - no matter how steamy it might be outside. If anything it's too cool indoors.

Definitely, definitely long-sleeved shirts.

I work in Sydney in a large building with thousands of bank employees. Every business-oriented bloke will wear long sleeves.

Ok, first, June/July in Perth is winter. He'll look like a pommie idiot in short sleeves in the middle of winter. And just because it's 10° here does't mean it's warm. It gets very cold and wet in Perth in winter.

And second, why do either of you care what others think of his shirts? He should wear what he's comfortable in. Some of the guys I work with wear short sleeves, others long sleeves and I work with a guy who wears shorts all year 'round. It can be +3° out and he rocks up in his shorts & summer shirt.

Most people wear long sleeves here in Perth, and generally turned up at the cuffs once or twice outside of winter.

I know what you mean about wearing short sleeves and I generally avoid them as well, however when some of the hot summer days hit 40 degrees or so then I am quite happy to use them.

I also spend time up on Construction and Mine sites and regulations insist on long-sleeved (high vis) shirts at all times.

Thanks mate Happy not to be a 'business-oriented bloke' and just be me

Back with a bunch of bankers but it's short-term and it looks good on the CV.

Do men in Perth wear shorts and long socks to work?

I work in an office in Sydney and the majority of us blokes wear long sleeve shirts but roll them up in a nice neat manner a few times.

Also slim fit shirts are in that don't have a pocket on the front or cross over strip where the buttons are. But this depends on build, not so good on the larger bloke. I like the tighter fit shirt with a good cut. I don't like the look of short sleeved shirts, it can look a bit nerdy if your not careful.

Unless you work around a financial area a suit top isn't usually required.

Baggy shorts and those dark blue singletes are the real look. To genuinely fit in, try the optional sweat rings, and go for the visible bum crack

Seriously, long sleeves and in most cases a jacket and tie.
