Work related question re Gold Coast / Robina area
The GC lifestyle looks perfect for our family.
I have a general question.
Other than service related industries and retail, are there general business opportunities there? I am not prepapred to commute to Brisbane for work, but GC looks just like what we are looking for.
I am a general business, project management consultant.....would I have to stick to Brisbane if I realistically wanted work?
Just looking for opinions.
Thanks!
Nix

Many do! ... and cos they're fed up with Gold Coast wages and work ethic!
If you're in a specialised field, then you might be ok, I dunno, but if you fall into the general category, then you'll be fighting for work along with the rest!
Lovely place, but finding a decent job isn't so easy in our experience. Well, unless you know someone, as after all it's WHO you know, not WHAT you know! ...

Hi, after reading your question, i had a quick look on seek.com.au
(gold Coast region) and there were a few jobs advertised in project management.. don't know what your salary expectations are/qualifications, but have a look on there for some accurate idea of whats available at the moment. good luck.

We are based in Robina and, as the other replies suggest, work here is variable. It really depends on what you do and how lucky you get.
Seek is an excellent resource for job-hunting (that's where I found my job), you could also try careerone which is also pretty good. The other option is speciality websites - if you are a member of a professional group (PMI etc ?) try their website
Good luck

Thanks for all the responses......
It really is quite hard to get all the answers from a distance, and when we get to Aus, we want to make the right "location" choose as moving around has implications for our daughters schooling....
I am actually a marketing consultant by experience......ran my own consulting firm consulting in marketing strategy and project management. But I have been living on a Caribbean Island for the last 8 years, and here that type of blue chip consulting does not exist. Here I have become more general - consulting on broad projects from a project management perspective. For eg. I am currently project managing the building of Aruba's largest shopping centre - I work with all the key stakeholders and make sure that everyone is one the same page, and on budget and working towards a common end goal.
I am not a member of any group (PMI etc) but have considered this as it seems that Australia likes paperwork.
I took a peak at the job websites.....but difficult to get the answers I am looking for....
Thanks again to all for your opinions...
Cheers
