Default Work for Plasterers??

Can anybody please tell me if there is much work for plasterers in either Melbourne or Adelaide please and what is the going rate they are roughly on an hour or per sq metre.

Who would my hubby be best contacting for work?

Kind regards

Just had a look at www.careerone.com.au there are only 2 plasterer jobs advertised in SA, and 27 in Victoria. But it is coming up to xmas and some if not most places close down for a few weeks so that could account for the lack of jobs. I don't know about hourly rates as they don't always advertise them.

I will keep my eye out here in SA for you, but it will probably be after xmas before there are any jobs advertised now.

Probably be a good idea to get his state trade licence before he signs up for a job, as tghey will probably ask to see it first.

Hi Debs

I work for the Association of Wall & Ceilings (Plasterers) in Melbourne. If you let me know when you intend to arrive I can circulate hubby's details around our membership. There is a fair bit of work around for plasterers generally but Christmas close down means things quieten down until mid/late Jan.

Can hubby do solid plastering and dry wall stuff? The majority of internal stuff here is the dry wall but if he can do both all the better - rendering etc.

Sites here are divided into commercial and domestic. Commercial sites are obviously the bigger jobs - hospitals, schools, hotels etc. etc. These usually have unions on them so will require hubby to have a Red Card - it's just an induction to site safety - a one day course (we charge $130 but the union do it a bit cheaper if you join). For domestic work, houses and small jobs you don't always need this but it's advisable to have it just in case. I can let you have the exact rates later (they are at work) but award rate is around $25 per hour, some places give you travel allowance on top.

Just pm me if you need any other info at all.
