Word to the wise on scummy politicians
#1

Just been made aware of a trick the political parties play to steal your personal details. They send a "Postal Vote Application Form", through the post to your address, with a reply paid envelope. However, the form isn't exactly an AEC form (though it looks just like it), and the reply address on the envelope isn't the AEC.
Yep, you've guessed it. The form goes back to the political party that sent it to you; who then harvest the contact details, phone numbers, email address - and hell, probably the security question and answer, before passing it on to the real AEC.
I've no idea why the hell this is in anyway legal - but apparently it is.
Should you get one, can I suggest using the political party reply paid envelope for something appropriate?

PS You can register at www.aec.gov.au if you want a postal vote.

I'll put some dog do-do in it and send it straight back

You pay for this. Yep, the political parties get free postage, with which to rip off your identity.
Thieving, good for nothing, low life ........ as you can tell, I'm not impressed that something that would put YOU straight in prison is apparently common practice.

This came up in the last election, and the one before that.
Just send back the reply paid envelope empty, so they have to pay the postage for an empty envelope.

I put the uncompleted Liberal form in the Labour envelope, and vice versa, and sent them off

OOh you can have loads of fun with this. I confess to looking forward to reply paids as I can mix & match the enclosures to my hearts content.
Not so much here as I got whilst in the UK though.
