wits end

hi, me and my family really want to go to perth to emigrate but finding all the paths blocked, i did a tiling course gaining my city and guilds accreditation level 1 and i'm going back to get my nvq level 2 but in the meantime i'm seriously thinking about jetting over for 4 week as a holiday come research project and going round as many tiling companies as possible looking for sponsors, has anyone done this or any advice would be appreciated, when or if we do get to go over we would have a fare bit of money behind us,

thanks.

There are a few tiler jobs if you type in "tiling jobs in Perth", for example: http://www.seek.com.au/JobSearch?Dat...archFrom=quick
http://www.simplyhired.com.au/a/jobs...rk/l-perth,+wa

There might be one or two companies here who manufacture tiles, but most tiling companies just supply tiles to customers or builders, who source their own tiler for the job. Some tilers would be on a contract to a builder, or sub-contracted. There might be some permanent jobs available through builders, but most tilers probably are self-employed and find their own work. You should also look into builders who specialise in renovations as well as new home builders.

Melbourne's not dissimilar - most trades are 'two men in a van' outfits, self employed and working through management companies who allocate their work - all the benefits of being employed full time except for holiday pay, sick pay etc.

Franchises are big here - Jim's, Grey Army, Hire a Hubby, etc. You'll need cash up front, but they do guarantee your first years' wages - visit their websites and have a look.

Otherwise keep trawling Seek.com or Mycareer or the like, whack in Tiler and see what comes up. Bad time of year to be jobhunting but you can still get some research done.

sounds similar to our situation 4 years ago.

I didnt have any qualifications worth mentioning, and my trade as wholesale flower buyer/exporter definietly didnt come close to getting on any shortages lists.

I flew over for just 10 days initially looking at options fror buying or starting up my own business on a business visa, and was offered a job on sponsorship while over here.

You will probably end up footing most of the bills such as relocation, visa costs, flights etc yourself because you will be trying to sell yourself to them, but why not give it a try. If you are stood in front of a prospective employer it proves that you are determined !!

Make sure you do plenty of homework before you come over, and try to get a few interested parties that you can speak to when there.
