Will my cat recognise me?
SIX WEEKS IN QUARANTINE?!?!
Will the hooligan even recognise us after the long?
I know we can visit her, but there maybe a chance she doesn't recognise us!?!

You are the evil people that put her through a long flight in a box and then in a kennel for six weeks - oh she'll recognise you alright She will treat you like dirt for a while but will come round eventually

We had a ginger Tom for years when I was a kid and then we got a dog. The cat left home in a huff and finally reappeared after the dog had died 11 years later! He came in through the kitchen window and greeted us all demanding his dinner as if he'd never been away!
This more than anything has convinced me that animals have really good memories in many cases.
Mind you, he never did learn to wipe his mucky paws when he came in...

I wondered the same thing- we are putting our cats in a cattery for 2 weeks before they fly out as this gives us more time to get a rental proprty before they come out of quarantine- so in total it will be 6 weeks until we see them.
The thought of them not knowing me or remembering me is horrible but as others have said I am sure they will remember ( actually they will probably pretend they dont just to make us feel bad for putting them through it all !!!!

Reckon she will secretly know it's us, but also "play" on it - demanding dinner, treats etc......

Poor them, and you! Am sure they will recognise you. If it makes you feel any better, I brought my 2 over into the UK and they had to be in quarantine for 6 months. I visited them when I could and when I got them home they went back into the same routine they were in when we were overseas. After the few days of ignoring me just to show me they were not impressed!

On the topic of visiting the cat though, this topic came up a while back and I remember someone (I think it was Ceri) who is vet saying that it's not adviseable to visit animals while they are in quarantine. When they see you, they assume you are talking them home and when you don't, it's a 'double' abandonment. Just a word of advise, I am not a vet though and other specialists might think differently.

Regarding the vet - I think it may have been this. The vet advised me when I flew the cats not to put them in the same cage on the plane ( as I wanted them to be in the same cage , as I thought it would be less frightening for them both). The vet said he has seen a few cases where one of the cats has panicked on the flight and smothered the other to death - by sitting on top of it. Also fights among them, where they have been injured. I was advised not to put them in the same cage, which I took his advice on it and put them in separate cages for the flight.
regarding will they recognise you, to the person who asked this question - why are you that unforgettable? ( joking ).
Of course they will
P.S I just phoned them everyday ( well not the cats - they are not that clever lol - the quarantine, and they gave me updates on how they were, pretty good about it - they are used to dealing with irrational owners)

When I used to collect them they would yell , and go running into their carrying cages in the "cells" knowing they were coming home. So I decided against visiting them when they went into quarantine here. I did not want to upset them. They would have thought they were coming home.

Mind you I should have become a vet - I've seen more of those places than my own home sometimes

Re: Will my cat recognise me?
Our cat wasn't bothered in the least... he's very affectionate (bit of a tart really) and will go to anyone; the women at Byford had been getting him out and cuddling him, so it was nice to know he'd been loved
When we got here, we kept him in for a couple of weeks and he was used to using the cat litter tray due to having been in kennels so that wasn't a problem. He loves it here but I make sure he's in after dark; catching animals isn't really a problem (he talks to them before trying to catch them lol) but I don't want him getting run over by a hoon.
Due to the timing of him leaving quarantine, we transferred him to a cattery for a few days (no other option as we'd just arrived and were staying with friends) and he coped with that easily - he was more interested in the different smells and animals there to be bothered about us going. We didn't go back to visit as we were really busy looking for our rental and we didn't want to confuse him any further. He was fine when we picked him up, just a bit wingey in the car and then spent a while sniffing around the house.
BTW You can put butter on cats paws (when you get to your new house) to distract them if they're nervous and then they just sit there for a few hours licking it off... which calms them down. We didn't do this with Sid but I remember doing this with other cats when I was a kid - it works.

Your cat may not be able to remember your face but it will remember your scent or smell. After l came back from a long holiday when by cat first saw me it looked affraid and did'nt recognise me, but then it slowly walked up to me a sniffed my leg and it then remembered my scent and then remembered who l was and became friendly again.
