we too watched it and as it went on my shock became sadness..

basically she was aa poorly educated person with an inferiority complex (hence the inverse snobbery) who was very insecure in the relationship (although i would expect her to have always been that way..)

i would assume that she is -like most of us- products of our parents (like their kids will be too sadly) and few in that life ever break away.

he was playing it for all it was worth and i think was a bit uncomfortable when she called it quits..

difficult life all round

but 37k ?? not bad eh??

cheers

richard

Thought this could be relevant i.e. who should/shouldn't have kids...

Low IQs 'shouldn't have children'
From correspondents in Copenhagen
September 30, 2003

A DANISH academic has sparked an uproar by calling for state measures to encourage childbearing among intelligent people but to dissuade those with low intellectual ability, to create what he called a better Danish society.

Helmuth Nyborg, a well-known psychology professor at the University of Aarhus who specialises in intelligence research, said it was time to "abandon the politically correct" and to practice selection in order to "improve the coming generations and avoid degenerates in the population", in comments this weekend that have been widely reported on national television and the country's main newspapers.

"I'm aware that my proposal breaks a taboo that dates back more than half a century, since Hitler's Aryan race program, and it is very controversial," he said.

"But the debate has to be raised now because the trend is cause for concern in Denmark, where we have an increasing number of problem kids," he said.

His proposals triggered outrage among many politicians and experts, including Integration Minister Bertel Haarder, who said Nyborg's suggestions were "against all moral principles".

But he said statistics show that women with lower educations have more children than highly educated women, who tend to spend more time studying and working before starting a family.

Nyborg suggested that highly educated women could have their workloads reduced while less intelligent parents could be paid to not have children.

"It's easy to make associations to Hitler and Nazism, as my critics do. But this has nothing to do with Nazism. Hitler was not a eugenicist, but an ideologue who abused the program of procreation," he said.

"He didn't want to improve the human race, he wanted to eliminate certain groups such as Jews, gypsies and homosexuals, and he massacred the most intelligent among them," Nyborg said.

Nyborg claimed intelligence was hereditary, and said it was "unfortunate and worrying if parents of lower intelligence bring more children into the world, as is the case today in Denmark, than highly intelligent parents".

"We can already choose to have children or not by doing practical tests in fertility clinics which show whether the fetus has hereditary genetic malformations," he said.

"It's possible to choose the eggs. So why not keep the best ones, in terms of intelligence," he said.

"Between 10 and 20 per cent of the population, who are at the lower echelon of society and who cannot fill in a time sheet at work or who cannot hold down a job or take care of their children, should not have children," he said.

"We are all aware of this problem, but we don't dare talk about it. But we should, for the sake of society and the future, so that we can have productive citizens and not people who need help," he said.

:scared: That was unbelievable. My Husbands comments were - when Emma's husband was going to take Lizzie out for dinner. 'is he going to take that out!'

That was 2 different worlds meeting. Poles apart!

Mark was just a PR**. I won't say anything more, as I might say something I shouldn't.

GOOD TV though!

I just feel so sorry for children who are brought up like that, because unless they are exceptionally strong characters their lives will be just like those of their parents. What hope have they got?
And I'm afraid I just have no respect for people who have 8 children, but just don't earn a living; merely exist on benefits when they are quite capable of working. Theres almost something immoral about it.

I'm sorry if any of that sounds harsh, its just my personal view.
Hi Pollyana its Catherine here ( Mrs hamilton nz) just wondering what your feelings would be for someone like me who has only got 7 kids? Aged from 3 to 18. Im not on the benefit tho, hubby Graham supports us (our oldest has left home so we're down to 6) We have been married for nearly 21 years and still love each other heaps. Hes a civil engineer, we have a great life syle in the country on 2 acres just out of hamilton. You may ask why the hell have we got 7 kids. Well we worked it out that because the wheels were missing on my side of the bed, hubby must of been rolling over when I was asleep and I never knew a thing about it, he was always very careful to pull my nighty down when he had finished so how was I to know.

Hi Catherine,
Did you ever get the wheels fixed on the bed or are you working on number 8?!!!
I actually don't have any problem with large families - the only thing that winds me up is the people who have large families and expect the rest of us to support them! Also, yours sounds reasonably spread out - the programme on TV said this woman had 5 under 4 or something like that, and they were living in a crowded, not very organised house. You say your husband has a job, also you have loads of space out in the country; bit better than all the kids cramped in a tiny house in a northern town. Its the attitude of the people in the programme as much as anything - they just wanted to have loads of kids, sit back and do nothing, and accept any cash the government will give them! As someone who's always paid taxes, it just annoys me! And then you wonder how much they care about the kids - some of them were chronic asthmatics, but the couple smoked like chimneys, all over the kids. Doesn't sound like a good way to cope with asthmatic kids!!
Make sure he keeps pulling that nightie down!!!

I'll second that Pollyanna! Also, in a few years' time it's quite likely that either one or both of them will have some pretty nasty medical problems linked to smoking and they'll expect all the free health care they can get their hands on to cure something that's self inflicted! I do pity the children who have no choice but to risk growing up with medical problems due to their parents' behaviour.

Working as a housing officer for a local council some years back made me realsie that these people are all too real, though I would not go so far as to stereotype all council tents, many I met were very nice and the majority you dont really meet at all so I assume are also ok. Mouthy women like that though really scare me, either society will go that way anyway, allowing them to fit in, or they will be isolated from a society that finds this behaviour unacceptable. I hope the latter. Otherwise that will be another good reason for leaving the UK.

Sorry to say you will not escape dole bludgers over here. I have met a few "the world owes me a living" people around Brisbane.

Also the large families. There is a woman down in Woodridge with 10 boys. They interviewed her the other day. The interviewer asked "What are their names?"
"They're all called George" she replied, "so I can call them all in at one time."
"So what do you do if you want to call just one of them?" he asked.
"Easy - I just use their surname"

Cheers,
DagBoy

Hi Pollyanna, no definatly no more kids I had my tubes clampt 6 months after my last one. Ive never been on the benefit and also get annoyed with people who sit around the house doing jigsaws and watching the soaps on tv waiting for benefit day. And as for wife swapping nah not for me Im a good happy wife my wild days are over. Besides why do that if you have a good sex life already. Bye for now. Catherine.

Hello all I'm with Catherine, sorry, I agree with Catherine,we have got five kids ourselves 8,10,14,16 and 17although we have claimed benefits at one time ,we much prefer to work to keep our family,as the old saying goes "monkey see monkey do".Our two eldest as soon as they left school had employment, definatley not layabouts. We also foster children we have four placed with us at the moment, making nine youngsters all told at the moment in our house and we know where each and every one of them is at any given time of the day.

Although I can't watch them 24/7 I am confident that they won't go out and embaress themselves or us as parents.

As with the loud mouthed one somebody SHOULD have given her a taste of her own medicine she would have shut up
