But do insurance companies pay out all the time? I was speaking to somebody on the Gold Coast yesterday about Friday's Cyclone. Their power went off from 12 midnight and it was still off when we were speaking on the phone at 1030am. The contents of the freezer were covered. However........a wall had been blown down by the winds and they reckoned the insurance company would not pay up.

Act of god or something? All in the small print of the policy they reckoned......you know what it's like.....all those clauses, provisos and excemptions. You need to be a solicitor to understand what is written down.......third party of the second party of the first party?!!!
Did you get the PM? Anything much happening today?

There was also a storm the day our ship came in at Fremantle. Arrival was delayed by 12 hours, and two containers at the docks were blown over. Thankfully ours was ok.

Sorry steve, I only just saw this! that sounds dodgy, what sort of insurance company doesnt pay out for something thats an act of god? thats what insurance is for! The only thing I have seen that may not be covered is water damage from a certain type of flooding & now terrorism.

wasn't that the HAND of god?
ha ha........anyway just found this on the net.
in law, an accident caused by the operation of extraordinary natural force. The effect of ordinary natural causes (e.g., that rain will leak through a defective roof) may be foreseen and avoided by the exercise of human care; failure to take the necessary precautions constitutes negligence, and the party injured in the accident may be entitled to damages. An act of God, however, is so extraordinary and devoid of human agency that reasonable care would not avoid the consequences; hence, the injured party has no right to damages. Accidents caused by tornadoes, perils of the sea, extraordinary floods, and severe ice storms are usually considered acts of God, but fires are not so considered unless they are caused by lightning.
