Does anyone have the reason why sausages are called snags in Australia?

To me 'snags' does sound like it is describing 'crap meat' and 'leftovers' etc!
Over the last few years and trying to eat healthier I could quite easily do without them and all the other processed food too.

Boringly, it probably comes from the British dialect word snag, 'a morsel, a light meal'.
