In my opinion the popular cars available, Ford, Holden, Mitsubisi are very poor and do not compare to the Japanese cars on sale. I do not understand why anyone would buy them when for about the same price Honda, Toyota, VW etc can be had.

"I've seen some crappy old V8s on the road lately. Ergo, Australian-made cars are all crap".
Uh... riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
GM/Holden VZ Monaro. (For details, click here).

I used to drive a Mazda 323 Astina back home Down Under. I bought one over here in the UK, and will buy one when I eventually return home to Australia.
Mazdas are wonderful cars.

I can assure you that the Japanese-made ones are just as dodgy as those made in Australia. The company has enough recalls to fill a book.

So I guess for reliability go for a Honda or a Nissan, eh ? Are there many Hondas in Aus ?

Does look like a Calibra on steroids though..........or a coupe version of any old commodore............is much of the car designed and built from scratch without borrowing anything from elsewhere ?..........
(No...don't open up the Porsche 911 debate on design never changing)

Vash, i'm sure your link for Mitsubishi could be used for any other car maker. As I said earlier I had a Land Rover which I loved though many complain about them. Im not too far from a Mitsubishi dealership and they seem to do well round here. Also the pick ups seem to be doing well round these parts. I have seen a few Evo's in the area and there are loads of Shogans which are bloody good. The Colt seems to be doing well too and has a good reputation in the UK. A mate at work has a GT3000 which he seems to like, oh and another mate has an Evo 8 which is mad.
I like em, reason being that before I even knew they made cars I was watching BBC1/ITV on a Mitsubishi colour tele and I liked the tele!!!! Oh and I have just remembered another mate at work has a Mitsubishi Galant.
Most reliable car I have owned is a Mazda MX5, hairdressers car but awesome fun.
HOWEVER, the Vauxhall/Pontiac/Holden Monaro is an awesome piece of kit and something I am contemplating, even though it's group 20 insurance.

So are you more in to the sound and look of a car then ?
Did you have a peg and playing card on the back wheel of your bike.......
I did but grew out of it aged about 11 back in the 70's..........me thinks most V8 crazy hoons here are still stuck in that era....just my opinion.
There's a word for those in to being more concerned with how things look.....what is it now...........oh yes, poseur isn't it.
What fancy cars are you referring to that are made like Matchbox cars?..there's plenty everywhere in the world but I have yet to see anything made in Oz that is any good be it sports car or not.......the Ford Territory isn't all bad mind you......Monaro ......I need to have a go.

What gets me is when these people driving these V8 things start to cry and moan when fuel prices get a little high.

People seem to forget that the Top Gear presenters peevishly admitted to loving the Monaro - 'Yes it's a Vauxhall!!'.
Aussie cars not the best but, give me a Ford Falcon over a Ford Mondeo anyday.
I quite like my Falcon, OK on fuel, big, comfortable, big boot, good on a cruise, cheap to service and fix.
