Cost-effective transportation such as cycles and donkeys have proven very popular here since 2008

Unfortunately a disporportionate number of London cyclists end up under the wheels of lorries. Strangely enough their needs were not considered when the city was laid out in the late 1660s. Doesn't deter 'em tho.

Does work in such positions pay any/enough of a premium to counteract the extra living costs incurred?
I personally believe a 457 is a bad way to emigrate. It works for some, but for me the options available as a PR outweigh a 457.

As this country is effectively run by trade unions, employment law is much stronger than in the UK and it is much easier to get rid of employees over there than here. This means that there are a lot of temporary jobs. I'm a contractor and always have been. Some people like to believe the illusion that being a permanent employee gives them more 'job security', but to me it's just an excuse to pay you less.

What is this Aus/NZ PR that people go on about? Can you get it before you even show up??? You don't have to do 4-6 years first like everywhere else?

You need them here in the winter and plenty of warm clothes.

Many people will say they feel colder here in winter than they did in the UK....and that is inside the house.

Don't be fooled by the image of hot weather and sunshine

Sadly this is true. The designers of Australian homes largely assume that the climate is identical from Tasmania to Cape York and build accordingly. If you've ever hired an apartment in Southern Europe during the winter you'll have an idea of what to expect.

Many Australian emigrants will get PR before they have ever been to Australia.

You apply for it before you emigrate. When you land here you have the same rights as an Australian citizen apart from a few exceptions.

After 4 years you can become a citizen.

Seems very liberal compared to UK/EU norms
