Default Who's missing British TV - I have a plan.

Hello to all you Brits in Australia or those of you are about to
take the big step.

We moved over a couple of months back and everything is going well, well except for the TV. I don't really watch much TV myself but my girlfriend is having Eastenders withdrawal symptoms.

I am aware that UKTV is broadcast in Australia, however episodes of Eastenders with Frank Butcher still on the scene are simply to far back for my girlfriend to stomach.

I have a plan to set up a broadband connection in the UK and Australia, and then remotely configure the UK computer (with a TV card) to record the soaps onto DVD. I would then ship the DVD's over to OZ. Obviosly this method incurs several substanial and also ongoing costs. Therefore I would need some help.

If there are enough avid soap fans out there who are willing to share the cost of this project, then I am willing to arrange and maintain the setup. I am not looking to make money, I am simply trying to spread the cost. I would ask for a contributory cost per DVD which would be payable once you had received and enjoyed the DVD's.

I would initally be looking at getting DVD's shipped on a monthly basis, mainly soaps etc. So if this sounds interesting to you then please email me ([email protected]) so I can see if this whole thing is viable.

Thank you for your time.

Glenn

Default Eastenders

Hi Glenn

I'm also a HUGE Eastenders fan so I can sympathise fully with your girlfriend. (My boyfriend has been known to leave the house and go to the pub when he hears the theme tune!)

I was under the impression that I could get some sort of satellite package to watch it in real time in Oz - guess you looked into that first and had no luck!

Your idea sounds interesting but money is tight this end for such luxuries - probably be reduced to catching up on the BBC website 'episode update' from time to time.

Good idea though, please don't be put off by the 'very sad' comments.

Why not record them and then transfer by peer to peer, you could have them the same day, and Then burn em onto disk in Oz.
Cuts the cost down loads.

Personally I can't stand Eastenders or Coronation St. etc. I can't think why anyone would pay good money to have it shipped on DVD.

Why not try a little socialising with locals

Karl.

Chippy, I've amired your latest posts, we agree on somethings. I see you've made your views clear, please let someone else. Remember this:
SteveBannister I agree with you, hence the 'well done mate'. Yes I do actually mean that.

Sorry, Chippy. I don't mind a bit of sarcasm but please use a smilie next time, as it doesn't come across well when you type.

Best plan of all is to burn your TV once you get to OZ. I have never seen such total out of date, misinformed rubbish in my life. Plus the Australian misconception that the UK is similar to "On the Buses and Love they Neighbour" because they are still shown here.

Plus the world only has one team, Australia.

Is it also necessary to have 20 minutes per hour of people who make their own TV ads with a videocam and their own children wearing sailor suits or similar.

Buy The Australian or The Age for the news and save on power.
