Default Who has and has not got a job

Hi Peeps,

I would like to know who has a job arranged before going to Australia.
Also who will wait till they are there , then look for employment.
What work will you all look for?

Hubby will wait till we are there and is an elctro/mechanical engineer

Not having employment is very daunting for him and I thought if he could see other people in the same boat, them it may ease his mind.

Cheers BooBoo (the curious)

We will have no jobs when we arrive - just intend to look once we get there.

hi
In Uk i am a social worker, hubby is a college lecturer. after doing lots of research, looks like we will both have to look at changing our career's! especially as we are heading towards perth. so we thought we would either re-train, look at buying a small buisiness or combining both our skills and being self employed trainners, specialising in workshops in confidence building and management skills. But at the end of the day if we both end up working in shops or in manual work, you couldn't do it in a nicer place!

cheers

Hi BooBoo

You are most definately not alone. We are off to Adelaide August/September time and like your husband mine has yet to find a job. He is an electronic engineer, however as he doesn't have a degree he will have to call himself an associate engineer.

Not having a job lined up is a big worry and is weighing heavily on my husbands mind. He is intending to blitz potential employers with his CV as soon as we get the visa but it seems likely that we will be searching for a job once we arrive.

Good luck

Sindy

I transferred on my job - lucky me! We got our PR on Andys skills...long story, he had five months of looking for job in his field..printing. It never happened, he is now a new car salesman and loving it for now. The thing we loved about changing country was also the opportunity for him to do something new after 22 years. Mind you on the other hand I am so in love with my job (IT specialist) I would not move to anywhere other than Sydney or Melbourne to be able to continue in my field.

On getting a job - from Andy the advice is talk to people not just check the ads you feel you can apply to, you never know who knows who...chat ask, and then chat and ask some more......

and if a job does not come up.....try TAFE courses, library, chat to the lady in the ....wherever. You never know!

I am one of the people who does not think it is easy by any means to get a job....so be prepared, but I also think it can be done, depending on what you will accept.

Cheers

no job -had an offer from a company in noracoorte but probably would not take it as it's too far from adelaide/sea...

but as i understand it I need several licences to work anyway (depending upon how gracious the S.A are) then get a job..

but my main priority is to help settle lorna and charlie in first,

get them two in and happy and it's a breeze from there on in..;-)

get that bit wrong and I'm stuffed...!!

cheers

My husband is a manager for 3 video mobile phones. The good news is a straight forward transfer to 3 in Oz would be relativity easy.... the bad news is the the company is based in North Sydney (St Leonards) and house prices are through the roof!!!!

He is going to line up interviews and go over for three weeks to get a job before we all go.

Hi BooBoo,

Get your husband to have a look at:-

http://www.petrochemlink.com/

Loads of engineering jobs here (check out the agencies page). Where are you planning on going? Perth is a good bet for engineers (Oil and Gas & mining industries)

Good luck.
Karl.

St Leonards is on a good train transport link....you have a wider choice than the North Shore and also then there is bus routes.....do not discount this area, expensive yes but there are also loads of alternatives, maybe go for the tranfers if things are tight take a short lease and then look around? Easier to get a job from a job?

PM me if you want more information on areas or ask on the forum there are lots of Sydnites out here!

Lots of luck

we are hoping to go to perth sept time.

I plan to quit my job (sales manager) with a large global IT Services company. and Bev will quit her part time job as a careers advisor in school.

Thier is a vague possiblity of me getting a job with my company if I wanted it, but it would be diffiuclt to set up before we go and is much less probably now we have decided on Perth as we were orginally looking at sydney which would of been easier.

Anyway we both fancy doing something different if poss and current favourite is setting soemthing up and working for oursleves if we get the money together we hope to with the house, etc.

All a bit nerve racking but very exciting at the same time, hopfully its he who dares wins!!
