who has applied or applying for SIR visa
We have been informed we would have to go the Skilled independant regional visa and South Australia would be our best bet.

Hi JAR
If this is your only option then go for it.
Have you look at STNI, not sure if it is on South Australia skills in demand list.
If you want advise on South Aus the look on the Adelaide Brits web site.

The SIR visa is our only route into Oz at the moment and will be applying after July.

- the MODL list:
http://www.immi.gov.au/migration/skilled/modl.htm
- the STNI skill shortage lists for South Australia, Tasmania and now Western Australia.
Only if you are *sure* that you can't get to 120 points through using the MODL, and if you are sure that no state will sponsor for STNI, then consider the SIR visa.
In the meantime you need a TRA assessment anyway, so it's generally a good idea to start that process now.

Have checked Modl Listing and occupation is not in demand unfortunately.
So am I right in thinking no state will sponsor for STNI dueto this & have to go the SIR route.?
What happens if by the time you reach AUs. You do the 2 years min reqd on this visa and you are nearing 45 can they chuck you out of country?
Also do you only get 28 days to secure another job on this visa if your first job does not work out.
Sorry for so many questions.

we have just got our sponsorship back from victoria and we are going over on a sir. we could go to wa on stni but we are so far in the process now that we are just carrying on. our agents have told us that if the state sponsor you at this stage then they will sponsor you after two years, if this is your only route go for it. it has all happened v quick started process in jan and been told tonight that we are about 2-3 months away from oz TRA took 4 weeks. If you have any question let me know

Also be aware that some employers will not want to hire you on a SIR visa (even with work rights) as they will prefer Australian citizens and permanent residents.
STNI is a way better option than SIR, check all those skill lists (for Vic, Tas, SA and now WA) very thoroughly.
