Who is going to Sydney
It is so beautiful. Lovely harbour and lovely beaches. Lots of jobs and real estate has gone down in price over last 2 yrs. More affordable now!!
It will always be the place for good jobs and lots of jobs. They are crying out for staff in a lot of industries.
I live in the eastern suburbs, and love it!!! It is quiet but close to everything.
Out of interest how many people are emigrating here.
Maybe we could arrange a BBQ at Maroubra beach!!!

We are aiming to find somewhere in the Eastern Suburbs too - Bondi, Bronte, Randwick or similar (though someone joked that these areas are a bit of a "Brit Expat Ghetto"...not sure about that.
Also looking at Surry Hills - central, possibly a bit dodgy in places but seems really affordable - were thinking in terms of $350-$450/week in rent for a 2-bed appartment.
Anyway, just trying to book my flight now for early March....

I lived in Surry Hills and Kings Cross whilst on a WHV in 1999/00 and loved both places.
We made the decision to live in either Perth or Sydney and went back to both on the validation trip. We loved Perth but as soon as we landed in Sydney we just knew we had to give it a go there. It felt like we had never been away. Financially Perth would have been the sensible option but our hearts said Sydney. So we shall give it a go and see what happens.

Re: Who is going to Sydney
We leave from Manchester on 24 Jan for a holiday in Penang and arrive in Sydney on 5th Feb. We are looking to rent on the North Shore. I start work on the 6th!!!
Removal company in next Wednesday and Thursday, house completion on the Friday and bye bye UK on the Tuesday. :scared:
Kids are saying final goodbyes to friends - we have a huge sleepover tonight and we are all getting a bit nervous!

We'll be there as soon as the house sells...and definitely by August ( have to validate by then so if not sold will be renting the house out and going anyway!). Aiming for the North Shore to start with as it's where Angie will be studying.

Re: Who is going to Sydney
Anyone going to Sydney- Eastern suburbs / North shore will not regret it.
Both beautiful.
I rarely visit the North shore due to bridge tolls and it is not as good a social life on that side of bridge. But lovely spot.
My favourite Beach is Maroubra as it is not touristy. Nice to see natural surroundings instead of buildings. There are the horses behind in the field and they have the target shooting, toy plane flying etc behind beach. My Partner shoots there every saturday. Also a great walk on Malabar headland with old buildings to see from the war.Feels like you are in the Bush with Ocean on one side and bush other. Hard to believe you are 20 mins from Centre of City.
Probably should not write all this as more people will come and it will become like Bondi!!!

A friend of mine works in Recruitment and there is a real shortage of people to fill all types of industries. The people who want to work already have a job.
Any specific industry you are interested in ???
Daily Telegraph or Sydney morning herald have most of the jobs advertised. Also local papers are worth a look.
You are arriving at a good time as over Xmas all quiet, starts to pick up end January where new positions will be advertised from then on.
